Protein doesn't bring down blood sugar, fat does. Eating too much
protein at once, when diabetic, will convert to glucose in the
liver. That's why pure fat, like coconut oil brings down blood sugar.

How quickly have you seen it to work?

Within 20 minutes, I've retested blood sugar and noticeable
decrease. I only use UNrefined organic, haven't tried refined.
Organic shouldn't matter maybe not unrefined either Spectrum, one
brand has both in stores. Most brands are the same source made in
the Phillipines.

I haven't eaten for 6 hours, just took a blood glucose reading, 165.
I broke open a bottle of Organic Extra Virgin unrefined cold-pressed,
non-GMO coconut oil from Vitamin Shoppe. Took 2 heaping tablespoons,
will let you know next reading shortly. This brand doesn't taste too
bad, was already partly soft so went down quick!

I would only do this for you, Shannon!

After 20 minutes, reading was 163, at 30 minutes 153 and almost 40
minutes 145. That was on an Ultra 2 meter.

On the Ultra mini, after 20 minutes 174, 40 minutes 150. I didn't use
this meter for an initial reading.

For the record, blood glucose readings, per manufacturer, can have a
20+ or - range in accuracy.

I took a urine test and no glucose, just ketones.

So, seems noticeable effect after 30 minutes on eating 2 tbsps
coconut oil.

All you are dong is giving your system fat to burn instead of
glucose, after sa fast. The high sugar was from fasting not eating
per your email.

To really bring down the glucose, including after eating too many
carbs, you need protein.
That will bring it down FAST (closer to 30 mins) - to where it
belongs (which is a LOT lower than 145).
IMO an hour to only go from 163 to 145 is not worth anything - the
body is being damaged any tie the level is over 110.

Hi Shannon - Yes it was my standard trick any time I ate something
that was too high carb for me.
For example I had 2nds and 3rds of a spinach salad one day - not
knowing that the "dressing" consisted of a mixture of sugar and
vinegar! A chunk of roast chicken fixed it quickly.
I just eat meat till I like the reading. Usually it's one or two
decent pieces like a couple thighs of chicken. It will respond fast,
so it is important not to overdo insulin as well.
I have no experience of using yogurt or other options and find that a
mix of carbs causes "bouncing" insteasd of proper glucose levels.
So yogurt is not appropriate (it has lots of carbs); this needs
beef, chicken, fish etc with NO breading or carbs.
"Bouncing" happens if you add carbs, it seems to confuse the system,
and then it drops TOO low, bounces too high again, drops too low etc,
before settling. I do not like to yo-yo between hyper and hypo so I
do not make my system handle carbs as well when I need glucose lowered.

Different people have more or less trigger-happy systems. Mine used
to be extremely "brittle" (namely inclined to shoot up at the drop of
a hat and dive down. Everyone is different - and the frequent use of
a glucometer is the best way to learn one's individual system - so as
to adjust accordingly.

The longer one controls the glucose away from spikes,m the less
trigger-happy it gets and the more tolerant it gets to an
*occasaional* splurge of carb.

The other method to lower it is of course a good 10 minutes of
moderate exercise. (Not more)

The trick is not to add too many methods together and thus confuse
the system which is TRYING to get equilibrated again.

So Susan, a lump of cheese or handful of nuts would be good as well? This is what I snack on.
