Hi Carol,

you were "always" like that, and what's behind it? I mean, are you
afraid of hurting someone's feelings, or afraid too much would be
expected of you, or want to "win" without attracting the attention, or
?
Okay, so there's the "drive" (to compete with yourself), but not
externally oriented ambition...?

My impression has been that it just never occurred to her in the past;
and since the matter was brought to her attention (long ago), she just
isn't interested, doesn't care. I think she'd say she does indeed
"compete with herself", she's ambitious I think in a similar way to
what you're describing, but doesn't seem to have any particular
thoughts about competing or not competing with others. Maybe I should
ask more...
