Using Boeninghausen's repertory, almost every time I repertorise, Nux
Vomica comes up top - I'm guessing he used it a lot!
From Sankaran's plants -
Nux is from the Loganaiceae family which also includes curare,
gelsemium, ignatia, spigelia, strychnine, Upas.
He has the family sensation as being "shocked, let down,
disappointed, torn to pieces, shattered, ruined" which is easy for us
to see in say ignatia and gelsemium.
The passive reaction is of paralysis, not being able to move, unable
to weep, faintness.
The active reaction is of being beside oneself, excitable and having
convulsions. The compensated appearance is of composure and calm, for
example composed and calm in the most shocking circumstances.
He lists for Nux from Complete
Ailments from: anger, vexation: fright with shock;
bad news
death; child of a,
death; parents or friends, of
disappointment
friendship deceived
love; disappointed, deception
losing money
mortification
pecuniary loss
position, loss of
shock.
He descibed it in the Soul of Remedies as a psoric remedy, but he has
changed his mind since he has expanded his miasmatic classification,
and now classes it with the typhoid miasm. He gives the example of
the delusions around losing the bed and says "so the feeling of Nux-v
is that someone has occupied his bed and place of comfort. He wants
to regain his position of comfort and will try to do this (zealous,
in a fiery way) by hook or by crook."
He combines the feeling of the loganiaceae family with the typhoid
miasm and the result is:
"shattered and torn to pieces and must make rapid efforts to recover
from the shock very fast"
I think this summary is too short and might miss the essence of
calculation that I think can play a part in Nux - you know what you
see in a business man who gets to the top - not necessarily the one
to bulldoze his way through but the one who competes like a good
chessplayer - keeping a calm face even though you panic inside.
Interesting, I've been looking at Gelsemium for the fear of heights
that I posted on before and what came through strongly for me with
that is the ability to mask and keep going while in the middle of the
situation.
