Maybe if you explain the any change (or lack of change) in the pattern
of acutes could be an important indicator for you to know how well
their constitutional treatment is going, so you would like them to tell
you, in as much detail as they can remember, about each of those
acutes. Then, *if* you are able to recognize a likely remedy for it,
you could remark, "Ah, that sounds like a __________. If we'd gotten
that in time, we might have nipped it off at ..." (whatever point you
would have expected / wanted them to call you at! Or, "Well, I guess
I'd have had to ask you more questions at the time, but..."). Give
them a sort of a "virtual tour" of how much *eeeeasier* it could be
going the remedies route! Our doc at first did most acute consults for
ongoing patients for free (or only a small charge); later that
privilege got abused by just one or two, and he instituted a more
substantial charge, but it *still* came out cheaper and easier than
going the allopathic route would have. Tho it would be tough if you're
competing with "free" allopathic treatments covered by insurance...

Yes!!!!
Also because often (not always) less specificity is necessary in
treating an acute--the body's energy is already very focused on it; and
it's already going to (most likely) get better even if you *didn't* do
anything, so a "helpful nudge" might be quite good enough; not so for a
deep chronic case. I think (as others have said) acutes are GREAT
training!

I agree with what you are saying-
at the same time I think diagnosing is not a problem for us - you do
not have to divulge what you diagnosed but use that for your own
judgment to prescribe - to find the rare and peculiar and to
understand the progression and prognosis...

And the drug store is waiting................

In this area, (Ca) you can go to your local drug store and the
pharmacist will
inject vaccinations, including the "flu shot". I was amazed at the
long lines
just before flu season and before school started.

Also up and coming, "Nurse in a box". (Title is a take off on Jack in
the Box,
a drive thru fast food place.) This will also be at the drug stores
where
you can drop in, get a diagnosis and a written prescription for a
nominal fee.
(Fee will be less than "Doc in a box", slang for the local ER.)

Large companies are also having "Nurse in a Box" so the employees
don't have to take time off work to go to an appointment.

Hello Shannon ( a long time!!),
Well every beginner including me gets into prescription especially
more on acutes in the beginning. But the 'perseverance' with which
one begins vanes once he loses way in some cases and he gives up
after a few doses. But imagine the old timers having no other option
left but to cure !! They did not have the luxury of sending the
patients to such allo clinics to 'manage' the symptoms.

The chronic prescribing is just another thing where the luxury of
missing can be forgiven both by the VF and the patient. Acutes are
where you should always be on the spot and as I said good footing in
MM and pathology is required. I am on Hahnemannian 2002' s side when
he says polychrests are mostly required to finish them off.

done that! At least one of them seems to feel he deserves regular punishment with antibiotics..., phone consults for regular patients in acutes is free of charge so it's not the cost. They are both older people, set in their ways it seems, and this is not how they view the purpose of alternative medicine.

the problem is one of faith based belief systems. i am sure most would
agree that
it is very difficult/impossible to logically argue against such a deeply
held belief system.
even with folks who intellectually claim they are holistic and who may even
express
anger and criticism against allopathic medicine, when sick they revert to
that very
system of medicine. if it involves children, then there is the added
anxiety that they
will make a mistake trying something that is different. and of course the
allopathic
institutions work real hard at maintaining control over the emotional
conditioning of
the public. i see this over and over again. and to reiterate, allegedly
free health
insurance is a big carrot that most wont ignore! we do fight an uphill
battle.

but my biggest hope for success as a profession is learning from the socio-
political history that sent homeopathy down the tubes. it may be one thing
to
argue internally over a particular process; ie how to do a proving. it is
another
to present such a divided front to the rest of the world. it was through a
tightly
controlled political organization that raised oodles of dollars in order to
influence
the polity that gave allopathic medicine such control. it happened with
other
aspects of the 'eclectic' medical protocols as well. one only has to look
at the
hx of women in medicine to see exactly how this worked--another fascinating
piece of research that i did a number of yrs ago.

Let's be realistic. In a lot of cases they failed.

Only their rate of success was still higher than that of the allopaths
at that time, and thus their reputation, and that of homeopathy, grew.

Yes, it was an open fact and was acknowledged by everyone. Stuart
close, one of those old timers, says in his " genius of Homeopathy"
that if the Homeopath found out the similimum 20 % of the times,
that itself is remarkable prescription. But this mean 20% was enough
for practice because of the nature of the Homepathic cure- bringing
out disease lock, stock and barrel. And the homepaths had to defend
a 75 year reputation versus that of 2000 + years of allopathy.

It was a time when everything was on trial. The secondary sources
like Boericke, Hering etc were not published. But still, with
limited remedies, limited MM and limited clinical knowledge , the
achieved the said results. I can't really comment on today's
practice since I have none and do not have access to that of others.
But overall, the old men's acievements are still something we can
keep as our ideals.
