A question - if this is prophylactic prescribing what exactly is being
prescribed for and how can it be either Staphysagria and/or Arnica and
possibly neither.

If it isn't prophylactic prescribing in as much as you already have a
sx picture to work with and you have decided it is similar to
Staphysagria then how does Arnica come into it.

Does this person need a rx before the operation? Why not wait for a sx
picture to emerge and then prescribe more confidently. If this person
doesn't have a positive sx similarity to either of these rx then why
give either of them?

Dear Vera

Just as a reminder

Arnica Should NOT be given prior to operation - only after!

Hi Joy,

While I definitely agree with your comments re not prescribing in
absence of a symptom picture, I would think that
surgery, it could make sense to begin the remedy before the surgery,
because (1) they're already exhibiting an imbalance, should handle any
stress better with the help of the remedy; and (2) surgery is so
commonly associated with staph (penetration, insult), I would think it
all the more likely that staph could be useful for support; and
reasonable to have the remedy at hand, even tho it may not be needed
(might be that staph does all that's needed.

Since the patient apparently *does* already display (apparently) a
staph symptom picture, why not go ahead and give some strengthening and
balancing before her ordeal begins?

If it is a chronic case, I personally would prefer that someone take
their remedy in as 'quiet' a time as possible and unless the situation
of surgery itself requires a remedy (such as intense fear), then I
wouldn't be asking someone to take a remedy just prior to surgery. Even
if you have a reasonably clear idea as to what might happen during
their healing you cannot be sure and surgery is such a turmoil, whether
someone is fearful of it or not - all sorts of things can happen.

That was just my thinking (and evidently Vera's too) around beginning
with low potency of staph prior to the surgery--to give her the
stabilizing boost, without risking disruption. Why do you feel that
even low potency doses are inappropriate for the situation?

Only because surgery can throw up so many other requirements that might
need attending to or nothing at all, whichever is the case. The surgery
itself is the disruption. If her case needs Staph and she needs it NOW
then fine (I would use LM's) but you would need to keep in mind that
the surgery can wipe out any reaction or confuse the reaction, i.e.
difficult to tell what's happening and if the situation then requires
another remedy such as Arnica then what has been gained?

Also you really don't know how someone is going to react to a remedy
whatever the potency and if it is the simillimum then a whole lot of
stuff can emerge - there was a hint of the case having some complicated
emotional undertones in what Vera wrote.

Apologies but it just came across as a bit indecisive and could be
asking for problems and making it more difficult for the practitioner
as well as the client and I just don't think it is worth the muddle
that might ensue.
