Thank you, John, for sharing this. I certainly understand the
willingness to try anything in such a situation. I appreciate your
describing the learning experience, though I feel certain that you
would just as well have done without it :(

Greetings!

1- Subsequent exchanges have shown John's case to be a case of 'Water
Retention' and not Obesity which is defined as an increased body weight
caused by excessive amounts of fat. The lost of 2 stones (28 pounds (12.7
kg) of body tissue in 48 hours would be dangerous.

2- Please advise obese patients to avoid anything with the sweetener
aspartame etc (except saccharin which I think is safe ). Aspartame (Equal
Nutrasweet, Canderel) is now in many foods and drinks, vitamins and over the
counter and prescription drugs.
