INIMICAL REMEDIES
Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Interesting discussion because a 73 yr old patient (strong VF) whose last Rx was Phos 200 and did well on it came to me with a cough > sipping cold water. Naturally I prescribed Causticum 6 , - 6 doses in WP a day for 2 days and the patient replied back that his cough was much better. I would like to repeat the Phos 200 now - but how long should I wait???

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Dear Doctors,
I would like to quote from Leaders in Homoeopathic Therapeutics by E.B.Nash:
"I do not believe in the so-called incompatibles as some do. I should give Causticum after Phosphorus, Silicia after Mercury, or Rhus tox after Apis mel, if I found them indicated."

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Here is a collection of thoughts on the subject of Inimicals, from
various homeopaths:
INIMICALS
Kent says quite correctly, that NEVER desert a remedy that has done some
good.
After when you think the action has stopped, always go up in potency
to make
sure that this remedy is no longer required.
The unnecessary changing of a remedy that has acted and done well, can
make
the case very difficult to resolve.
---------------------
According to George Vithoulkas and Misha Norland, if you give one of a
pair of inimicals and it doesn't act, you do not need to worry, just
give the other one if it is indicated. It is when the first HAS acted,
that you (theoretically anyway) need to avoid prescribing an inimical as
the next prescription, as it might screw up the case.
------------------------------------------
If the former remedy worked well, try to avoid following with an
'inimical',
if a remedy was given without benefit, following with an otherwise
inimical remedy may less likely prove 'inimical' because inimical to
what ? ? ! ! nothing worked yet so there is nothing to be inimical to
Chris Kurz
--------------------------------------------
I think it is important to make the point that the relationships booklet
refers to what decisions to make AFTER the remedy has acted.
If the remedy has clearly had no action then the notion of inimical
does not arise.
However the similarity between apis/rhus or phos/caust are such,
that they
can severely aggravate the patient quite unnecessarily.
This is what you are cautioned against.

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Hi,
A patient took for the last week Mercurius 6x.
His constitutional rx is Silica, which is an *inimical* to it.
My question is:
How much time (in days) should go by until he can safely use the inimical silica (which will be in the 12c potency)?
Many thanks and best regards!

Hi Rafy,
An intercurrent would be helpful. There are 20+ remedies that follow well.

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Hi Again,
I'm looking at Millers "Relationship of Remedies" and note Calc follows Merc well and complements Silica, Thuja follows Merc well and complements Silica and Puls follows Merc well and complements Silica.
Puls is the acute of Silica and Silica follows Puls well. Would this be helpful in your case?

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
I have heard this claim before.
Why do you believe this? And what do you mean by it?
Are you suggesting Puls is not useful as a chronic remedy? Or SIl not useful as an acute?
How are they supposedly related?
I do not agree with this theory:-) It makes no sense to me at all.
In every way, they are extremely different remedeis:
Even ..Puls physically is very different indeed to Silica!
Namaste,
Irene

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Hi Irene,
I think all it means is that someone with a chronic need for silica, may be more prone to having acutes that call for Puls. It doesn't mean that Puls doesn't have *other* roles as well, or that it isn't also sometimes needed as a chronic or constitutional remedy.
Similar to the Phos / ars : chronic / acute relationship, and many others.

Re: INIMICAL REMEDIES
Hi Irene,
I was responding to Rafy's question: going from Merc to Silica. (inimicals)
Using an intercurrent/mediator was suggested.
Three remedies (there may be more) showed possibilities.
Puls looked interesting as an "intercurrent/mediator". It follows Merc well and has an established acute/chronic relationship ("plays well together" with Silica.
Merc to Puls (intercurrent/mediator) to Silica.
