Last year, I have gotten so I don't get the bronchial chest symtpoms and

Such policies are most regrettable.

Below is a (quick) translation of the official policy guidelines for Dutch
family doctors in case of fever in children, given by their organisation and
published on internet.

Official guidelines for Dutch family doctors in case of fever in children:

- A realistic notion about fever will make it more easy for parents to deal
with children having fever.
- In general, fever does not need treatment.
- Actively lowering the body temperature is not neccessary. Applying cold
compresses and cold sponging of the child is not meaningful.
- In principle, no antipyretics are given. Antipyretics do not fight the
disease and at best will make the child feel a bit better.
- Fever is qualified as a rectal temperature above 38 degrees C. There are
no injurious effects of fever below 41.7 degrees C.
- Fever is a useful bodily reaction. If the heat is allowed to drain away,
fever will not rise above 41.7 degrees C.
- The increase of the body temperature seems to be important in fighting the
disease.
- If the fever is not treated, this does not mean the temperature will keep
rising.
- The main reason for taking the temperature is knowing whether or not there
is a fever.
- There is no use in measuring each change. It is sufficient to take the
temperature once a day.
- Parents should not wake their child to take the temperature.
- Temperature should be measured per rectum. Other ways are not reliable.
- Observing the child and registering changes in the childs behaviour are
more important than frequently measuring the temperature.
- The extent to which the child is sick is far more important than the
temperature of the fever.

Just want to mention in the early 90's when I still had migraines (prior to
cure with homeopathy), I was in Switzerland. I was looking for some
aspirin and it was NOT sold in foodstores, only at pharmacies. And I could
only get it in a little tube of about 10 or 15. NO HUGE bottles like in
the US - 250-500-1000 in number. Showed me that few use aspirin there for
anything.

The guidelines contain a lot more than just the therapy guidelines (it's
also about diagnostics/what needs special attention/
what to do in case of convulsions/dosing of paracetamol if needed (advised
against)/'fever phobia'/how to communicate with allochthonous citizens/a
large number of studies/etc. Quite lengthy - and all Dutch.

My translation was the part under RICHTLIJNEN BELEID (policy guidelines).

Various publications about fever and treatment of fever suggest that doctors
need to take time to educate about fever. Health education to fight 'fever
phobia' should be a part of basic health care for children. The favourable
effect of education and information is shown by prospective studies. Parents
were invited to have a structured informing discussion about fever, followed
two months later by written documentation. In the 4 months after the
discussion non-relevant phonecalls about fever were 50 % less. Unneccesary
house calls and the use of antipyretics decreased even more.

Once when I was a new mom my baby got a fever of 104. (Baby is 34, now) I was practically hysterical. It was winter and the HMO was about an hour away. I wrapped him up in about 8 blankets, put him in the car with the heater on and "flew" to the emergency room. You can probably guess the outcome. His temp broke from the extra blankets and he was laughing and smiling by the time the doctor came into the room. I learned a big lesson and started bundling up anybody that had a fever. Works pretty well most of the time. It is harder with adults, though.
