Dear Shanon and Joy,

The child's mother is from a family where incest took place producing 2 of her "sibling" (hearsay). But none of the other children are so badly afftected by the mother's heritage. This infant could not be comforted when picked up, could not stop crying until sleeping, banged his head against the wall ect. The strangest thing is the mother did not take her drugs for bi-polarism only for this child. There are 2 other of her children. She said that the drugs would badly afftect him. Unfortunately only he was so adversely affected. His birth father and step-mother are loving and organized so he has a good chance. He looks like and acts like he is 12 years old, but he is 17. I am hoping that the right remedy can help him to make it into adulthood.
Joy, I can't find the rubric, but my teacher said that Jerremy Sherr had something in Radar related to foot biting and Medorrhnum. It does seem extreme to me that he is biting his feet for nervousness. He looks like a 12 year old and is of a slight build, so he may be flexible but...

Blessings,
Ellen Madono

If I understand your question right, yes, two people can do the same thing
but for different reasons. And if you know the *reason*, then you have an
added clue for your remedy search. E.g. if the patient spits -- is it
anger, teasing, a version of "swearing", or ???

Anxiety is a form of fear. Is this a free-floating anxiety, as in
Ars, or is it related to a specific stimulus? Skin picking/biting
is a compulsion, meaning that it is an irresistible impulse that
relieves an inner stress. What is that stress? Why is this person
compelled to indulge in a senseless, uncontrollable behavior? You
might also consider the rubric "MIND, Mutilating his body".

As per the loss of emotional connection, maybe consider suppressed
emotions? Or even flip the symptom around and look at it from the
perspective of needing stimulation, as in action flicks, such as
in "MIND, Activity, desires".

doing this because of pain or itchiness. He is anxious. I see the

action plots make sense to him.

Hi Ellen - does sound like Med. might be higher than Carc., but not
necessarily, as I've known Carc to bite their toenails and fingernails (for
pleasure and not so much anxiety, although it is probably at the back of
it), and to 'tease' small defenceless creatures if they're not their own,
usually because of a hx of abuse which is 'acted out'. But I agree with
Joy, if he is being violent, it sounds more Med.

However, it is not in this -

MIND; STRIKING; general; knocking his head against wall (K84,
SRI-966, G67) (15) : apis, ars., bac., Bell., con., cupr-acet., hyos., mag-c.,
Mill., ozone, phos., rhus-t., scut., syph., Tub.
HEAD; BEAT, beats; his or her own head; bed, against the (K107, G89)
(11) : apis, ars., con., hyos., mill., prot., rhus-t., scut., stram., tarent., tub.

but Carc and Med and Tub is in -

MIND; RETARDED children (16) : arg-n., aur., bar-c., calc., calc-p.,
carbn-s., carc., iod., lyc., med., merc., plb., sil., sulph., tub., zinc.

Hope that helps. :-)

MIND, Childish behavior. GENERALS, Development arrested. MIND,
Shrieking, in children. MIND, Anxiety, in children. MIND, Talking,
of one subject, nothing but. If you conclude that action flicks are
stimulating, you might even go so far as to consider MIND,
Excitement, desire for.

All together, there seems to be a lot of Carc and Med, and, imho,
Stram, which is a good bi-polar remedy, when you consider that this
child emerged from a woman afflicted with it and there is a
heritable component to the disorder.

I would pursue what this young man's fears are.

Dear Barbara,
I am questioning which part of the history to include. The very severe symptoms took place in infancy (can't be comforted by holding, crying all the time, head banging). He may have some hearing loss also since his voice is very flat. However, since his bipolar mother was taken out of the home, those obvious signs of abuse have decreased or are gone (kicking his grandmother or the school principal, more extreme restlessness, hiding from his grandmother, many phobias that he no longer has). Now he is only afraid of bees, sticking pins in his skin one year ago. Dr. Sharhar suggests narrowing the number of Sx down to 13. It seems that I should take the current layer and see what emerges (Carc, Med, Kali-c). Herscu suggests taking the deepest layer (Stram, Annacardium).

I don't want to upset the family with sudden change since the boy is doing much better than he had when his mother was with him. His growth has been stunted by Ritalin ect. so he has a lot of catching up to do. Still for personal reasons, I feel a mild approach would help him the most. The parents are very supportive. But, he is my cousin's son, so I can't afford to bring about some big disruption and turn my entire family against me. They have no experience with homeopathy. Even if a strong aggravation would be best for the boy in the long run. I don't know what the assumptions are behind Dr. Shadrar's approach, but I assume that they are closer to my goals than Hersu's.

Blessings,
Ellen

Some ideas for rubrics:

MIND; MONOMANIA (35) : absin., acon., anac., anan., aur., bell.,
camph., carb-v., carc., cham., chin., cic., cocc., con., croc., cupr.,
dros., hell., hyos., ign., iod., lach., lap-c-b., mag-c., nux-m.,

sulph., syph., tarent., teucr., thuj., tub., tub-k., verat., verat-v.,

3Ros-ca.223
MIND; REPEATS same things (5) : chen-a., germ., lach., plat., zinc.

Stram, Lach, cuprum anac, croc, hyos, Carc, limestone, Med Germanium,
coff-t come up in rep.

=====================

If just take
MIND; TEARS; himself, herself (19) : ars., bac., bell., carc., cupr.,

tab., tarent., tub., xan.
MIND; BITING; fingers (8) : acon., arum-t., carc., elaps, hydrog.,
med., op., plb.
MIND; BITING; himself (11) : acon., arum-t., elaps, hura, lac-h.,
lyss., op., plb., sol-t-ae., stram., tarent.

and cross with

MIND; MONOMANIA (35) : absin., acon., anac., anan., aur., bell.,
camph., carb-v., carc., cham., chin., cic., cocc., con., croc., cupr.,
dros., hell., hyos., ign., iod., lach., lap-c-b., mag-c., nux-m.,
oxyt., plat., puls., rhus-t., sil., stram., sulph., tarent., thuj.,
verat.

Elimination: acon., bell., carc., cupr., lach., Stram., tarent.

We also have:
MIND; AILMENTS from; abuse (11) : ambr., aur-m., calc-p., carc., hyos.,
lyc., nat-m., staph., stram., thal., thuj.
Random ideas:
Repetitive or ritual behavior could be the hydrophobic miasm (Klein) in
which most of these latter are prominent. How does he feel about
water. Eliminate Stram first if you can (hx of violence). Does he
need a nightlight to sleep (Stram)..

But also could be sycosis, cancer, or other. A bit more digging into
the past may yield another peculiar.

An ironclad physical symptom (e.g modality, concomitant, location) may
help.

Or "sensation" how he "feels" (have him do a drawing with
crayons--interpret; ask him his dreams if you have not
already--nightmares?; ask him (repeatedly :-) how he "feels" and
collect all the answers to evaluate. See judyth reichenberg/Bob Ullman
books on kids and Herscu book for mm.

Quickies
Cuprum is cramped, twitching, interested in conformity. (see tinus
smits website for good materia medica)
Stram is violent, staring wide open eyes
Tarent is SLY, restless, hurried, off the charts, worse 5 AM
lach is loquacious, sharp tongue, left sided, clairvoyant,

Interested to see Magn Carb in Andy¹s rubric monomania as what came to my
mind was Kent¹s lectures describing Magn Carb in children who are not
nurtured. I imagine Medorrhinum needed as well. Jean

Hi again Ellen,

Here's a few more thoughts to add to Andy's list:

MIND; DULLNESS, sluggishness, difficulty of thinking and
comprehending; children, in (K38, SRI-421, G30) (23) : abrot., agar.,
Arg-n., Bar-c., bar-m., bufo, calc., Calc-p., carbn-s., carc., cupr., iod.,
kali-sil., lach., lyc., med., merc., sil., Sulph., syph., tax-br., tub., zinc.
MIND; CRUELTY, brutality, inhumanity; general; animals, to (4) : Ars.,
bell., calc., med.
MIND; MALICIOUS, vindictive; dogs, to (1) : tub.

and previous behaviour -

MIND; CRUELTY, brutality, inhumanity; general (K17, SRI-116,
SRI-190, G14) (39) : abrot., absin., alco., ANAC., androc., ars., aur.,
bell., bry., calc., canth., carc., chin., choc., croc., cur., falco-p., haliae-lc.,
Hep., hyos., kali-i., kali-p., kola., lach., lap-mar-c., med., nicc., nit-ac.,
nux-v., op., plat., sabad., sel., squil., staph., stram., sulph., tarent., verat.

Not sure about the last rubric, but more Med. (bearing in mind it is
under-represented in the reps anyway) and it works as a detoxifying rx
generally - but is that your point? That you don't want anything toooo
strongly eliminative ?

Best wishes, Barbara
