Hi Ellen,
By the time you get to 8 (whether c or x), you have indeed potentized, 7
times already. 2x is potentized, or it would not be an x (nor a c), but only
a dilution. Each step of x or c consists of *dilute and succuss* =
"potentize"; that's why each step (new number) is referred to as a
"potency"! I'm still a bit confused about Didi's train of thought...

Somehow, the "c" potencies were prepared on globules above the 6c,
but the X potencies were made as trits.
If you have an non-soluble substance (like Calcarea or Cuprum), you
MUST trit it to a point of getting it soluble.
That point happens at the 3c or 6X potency. If you want to make a
liquid from there, the next step would be 4c or 8X.
Most of the "drainage" stuff is made from mother tinctures and is,
therefore, able to be potentized from MT to 2x.

Hi all
Some people quote an experiment which came up with a 'clumping theory' where
extreme dilution's have samples with more molecules than others and say that
this can explain the effectiveness of homeopathy, I think this is not a good
explanation. On the contrary, a few people may get more than their fair
share of molecules (big deal) but as I see it, more people have even less chance
of getting a molecule. IMO using flawed theory's to try to explain homeopathy
does us all a disservice.
I was impressed when I heard a radio programme about an eminent British
scientist (sorry, cannot remember his name) who was an amateur water diviner. He
could consistently find underground streams and drains using a twig. He was
happy to admit that his skills could not be explained by current scientific
knowledge, but he knew it worked. Why do most scientists assume that if we
cannot explain it, it does not work? despite evidence that it does.

Ah ha!!
You've fallen into the big hole!
With all the stress on "memory of water" we forget several things...
1. That most potentization in the early stages uses ALCOHOL and not water
2. That some stuff begins life as TRITURATIONS
3. That the final form is usually a dilution of alcohol that is
dropped onto and impregnated upon SUGAR, and...
4. The dilution eventually evaporates from the sugar globule.
Yet... we get an effect when we take a dry sugar granule into our
mouth-- even if that granule has say around for over 100 years!
That is a BIG Hole!
And... we have no idea at all of how it does it.
Colin Lessell write a small tome about it, but while I admired his
attempt at trying, his explanations made no sense to me, and a
physicist I know looked at them and said they were rantings of a
deranged mind...
One thing Lessell laid stress upon is the need to make the stuff in
ROUND vessels-- round mortars, cylindrical vials, etc. Never having
seen a SQUARE Mortar and pestle, I can't verify what a remedy would
be like made on that....
I think we just have to accept that while we don't understand HOW it
works, we can easily verify, through clinical experience, that it
DOES work-- and that should be enough.
Haven't figured out Gravity and electricity either-- but we make use
of it just fine...

Dear all,
Well Julian & Shannon, I guess I'll climb out of my self-dug hole and I'll throw out all those unprovable theories in hopes to explain the unexplainable. I'll toss in my lot with you guys on this issue. I think I'll try the stomping advice next time my students ask me about it. Besides I'm not producing all these things all the time, I'm just trying to improve my understanding of our medicines.
Now, Ellen,
You said you were lost. Let me see if I can explain without getting myself in a deeper hole.
Now you are confusing several email threads together. And I never said that I use only one potency or another. There are occasions to use MTs, 2x. And there are occasions to use higher potencies, no? Do you always use only one potency in all your prescribing?
About the "trituration & 8c" reference.
Our medicines come from many sources. But to make a very long story short, some medicines are alcohol+water soluable, some are not. Those that are alcohol-water soluable are make into mother tinctures (or 1x dilutions) and prepared from there into higher potencies. All according the pharmacopoeia instructions.
Those medicines that are insoluable are trituated. Here's the instructions from the Indian Pharmacopoeia of how to make a liquid potency from a trituation:
below the added [brackets] are my attempt to clarify further.
"Conversion of trituation into liquid potency:
Dissolve 1 part by weight of the 6th trituration in to 50 parts by volume of purified water to which 50 parts by volume of dispensing alcohol is added. Give 10 succussion to this liquid mixture. Number 7x dilution from 6x trituration is not possible. The first [liquid] potency prepared from 6x trituration is 8x [or from 3c trituration to] (4C) [liquid]. Subsequent potencies may be prepared either in the decimal or centisimal scale in the usual manner but in preparing the first potency from 8x potency use dilute alcohol."
So I correct my own earlier typo not 8c, but 8x.
Sincerely,
Didi Ananda Ruchira

I wasn't actually recommending it, just repeating with glee!
Maybe better to try Julian's lines, about how we also don't understand e.g.
gravity, but it still works! Science begins with observation, and then the
theories struggle to keep up -- no doubt our time will come, LOL!

verb??). Didn't know they were made with only mortar and pestle.
Anthroposophists make use of trits up to D30 (30x) and even (rarely) D60.
Tissue salts are also usually triturated up to 6X

where
that
even with the "clumping", if it really does happen, you have to reach a
point of avogadro's number for the clumps, then its anyones guess. i figure
the answer won't be found by conventional science, but maybe by string
thoery, who knows?
