It's "early days" with the Lacs yet and more and more "observations" will be
making it into the literature over the next few years.
This observation is from my clinical experience but triggered initially by a
pespective put by Sankaran at a paper he gave at the ICCH Conf in Tromso in
2000 and one can see it in his proving if you go through it carefully .
He added some good info to be added to the initial proving of Houghton and
Halahan.

He introduced the idea that the core issue is about getting this balance
right and I have worked with it to good effect over the past 4 years.
I don't know if you can still get a copy of the Proceedings from that
conference; might be worth your while to track it down as Alize Timmerman
also gave an excellent paper on Lac-h which touched on this idea as well.

The Links book on MM of Milk has something in it by me which expounds on
this idea; with cases.

It's not a fear of the future but a problem with reaching out and grabbing
it by the throat as the individual is "torn" between meeting his/her own
neeeds vs meeting those of others and tends to put the others first.

It is the Christian way; part of our conditioning & why we, in Western
cultures, tend to abgnegate our needs in favour of another's. We "turn the
other cheek" and value Humility over Egotism..
Sankaran at Tromso very nicely suggested that it is why we tend to sign our
names using only the initial and add emphasis to the surname which
represents the group identity. How many lists of names have we ever seen
with both a given name and a surname? Not many! Sankaran took this idea
further by pointing out that in Eastern cultures (especially communist
regimes) the tendency has been to give all of the power to the state; to
wear grey; to lose one's individuality.
Sankaran urges that we need a balance and Lac-h can bring that about.

So, the Lac-h "issue" is about getting in touch with the divinity within and
not looking outside for it.
We are creative beings who have the power to shape our own destinies. That
is why Foll is comp to Lac-h; it's a creativity issue in that instance.

Because of this tendency not to promote the individual consciousness, if any
of my patients are Lac-h I look at the way they sign their name and often
suggest a change in signature.

Sorry, I find that he tends to make sweeping generalisations. Has he got the
statistics to back this statement? Just go to any bookstore and peruse a
book on signatures and you will find that most signatures contain the first
name and surname. However, you also have to look at the size of each name in
the signature.

In Chinese names, the family name comes first (Chua), followed by the
individual's name (Ching Yee), signifying the importance of family (group)
before self. Whereas in western, muslim and and indian names (don't know
about other cultures), the individual's name is written first.
What lists are you referring to? When people are asked to write their names
and contact details on a list being passed around, they include both names.
This has been my experience.

I think you are describing a pattern, Patricia, that I see in the UK & must
be it is in Australia also.
People in the UK still go by Mrs. so and so. Rarely in the US anymore
except some elderly maybe.

But certainly not in the US in my experience and according to Ching Yee,
not in her experience in the Orient.

I too see our society in the US at least as very egotistic and
individualistic.
UK is less so, where I live now, but more so than most countries.

I have never signed my name using only the initial.

See what problems we can get into projecting our own beliefs on a case - on
a person.
The unprejudiced observer.
It is difficult from one person to another and VERY difficult from one
society to another.

In Sankaran's paper at Tromso he made mention of the Chinese tradition and I
would agree that it is a sweeping statement made in the course of his
presentation to make an impression.

Yes; He also "touched on" the notion that Westerners are individualistic;
driven to fulfill their own needs much more these past several decades; but
he further made the point, and I think it is a valid one, that it has
resulted in a lot of lonely, unfulfilled people who seek fulfillment from
outside activities and know not how to fill their own cups.
That's part of the core issue of "accessing the Divinity within" and, please
remember, we are talking here ONLY of the Lac-h type! The lesson of Lac-h is
"to be alone but not lonely".

It is my clinical experience that the majority of Lac-h types sign their
name using only the initial of their given name and emphasising the surname.
I share this observation with the list to help in everyone's understanding
of what is still an "evolving Rx".

Individuals who sign their names using both the given and surname tend not
to be Lac-h types, in my experience.

Sorry for poking into an unexperienced domain. As a
still learning one in homeopathy, I have these
questions on this thread
1. Whether the lac h suggestion is useful at all since
the patient had nothing to be cured in the mental
sphere. Even when taking into consideration the
temperament, did she portray anything abnormal ?

2.By linking homeopathic remedies to certain races
because of their mindsets, will we not be accused of
routinism rather than close individualisation ?:-)

3. Will looking for a mental symptom when there is
none be going sway the dictum of organon ?

Well, I may be naive. But at least I will get cleared
of some ignorance if these questions get the light of
your answers.
