Would you be kind enough to post info on the list about the 'Flu
that is affecting your country at the moment? Have not yet seen it my
area of Australia yet.

What is its genus epidemicus symptoms, progression, etc and what are
the main remedies you have found effective against it?

From what I understand it is affecting and killing children more than
adults and is very nasty. Any gained experience would be appreciated.

In my part of NZ, I have only seen a mild form, no specific genus, the usual
fever remedies and often I even do not bother to treat with homeopathy, just
rest, vitamin C and homebotanicals, works well.

You must also realise that we are in the middle of a vaccination campaign
against meningitis B, kids are herded to be injected on top of their regular
vaccines and the flu vaccines, but of course nobody accepts any correlation.

I have been publicly recommending (local radio) the preventative use of
Influenzinum or Oscillococcinum.

Several in my family had the "flu" (all un-immunised), and it turned out to
test positive as Epstein Barr virus - so maybe it is that which is rampant.
Symptoms were huge painfully sensitive cervical glands (I mean huge -
visible from a distance!), fever, malaise, very sore throat and headache.
Symptoms lasted for a couple of days though the glands remained enlarged but
relatively painless for up to a week with a relapse a couple of weeks later
in one.
I know of some college kids who have then gone on to test positive for
glandular fever (immunised teenagers).

In case this is a harbinger of things to come in this year's flu season, I thought I'd write up a recent case. Px is a woman, age 21; her mother is a long-standing patient of mine and the one who reported the symptoms. Because of our recent ice and snow storms, I couldn't make a house call, so the case was handled entirely over the phone.

CC: High fever (104 degrees F.) # chills; Px complains top half of body feels different from lower half. Feet and legs cold, subjectively and objectively; the feet are cold even when she has a fever. Head, neck & shoulders hot. Has sweats and chills.

Not eating; drinking a bit (room temperature liquids). No time modalities or apparent pattern to the fever.

Severe headache, .]

Her face gets red, except for the area around her eyes, which stays white. Skin is hot to the touch, but not burning hot.

Her glands are hard, but not painful. She has swollen lymph nodes under her axillae which have been bothering her for a year.

Mom gave Ars., Bell., which did nothing, and Ferr-p., which helped the headache somewhat and dropped the fever, allowing the Px to sleep from 3 AM on. She woke at 9 AM feeling really chilled; when covered, her fever rose.

This illness was slow in onset, taking a couple of days to develop. Px is increasingly thirsty, sucking up 6 oz. at a time through a straw. She is also constipated, and her menses started today (12/21).
Because of the constipation, relapsing fever, thirst, slow onset, and aggravation from movement, I prescribed Bryonia 30c, which the mom had on hand. The following day, her fever was much lower and she looked better. A rash had broken out across her chest. Her head still hurt but it, too, was better.

On 12/23, the mom reported that her fever had gone up again to over 103 F. the previous evening and the Px had intense pain in her R temple. They repeated the Bryonia. Px fell asleep, slept well, and her fever went down. The rash on her chest was spreading; she'd also developed diarrhea. It felt as if her eyes were bulging out of her head and it hurt to move them. She now had a throbbing, stabbing pain in her R temple pretty consistently, and her neck and shoulders were again hot to the touch. Arms were warm in spots and cold in others. It hurt her head to laugh, or even to think; she could not think "calm thoughts," only negative ones. She complained of joint and muscle pain.

Some things had improved, but the headache was worse. With the new complaint of joint and muscle pains, I prescribed Eupatorium perf. 12c, again the only potency the family had on hand.

Px gave a relaxing little sigh right after taking the remedy and fell asleep. By the following day, there was a big improvement. Her temperature was now down to 98; there were no more pains, except in her head, and those were a shadow of what they'd been. She was eating a bit. Following a day of rest, she made a complete recovery. The two doses of Bryonia resolved her swollen axillae nodes, and a single dose of Eupatorium completed her recovery from the flu.

Isn't it amazing what even low doses of the right remedy will do?

Yes, thanks very much, Dale. At this time of year, it’s always good to know what’s actually going around in different areas, because they all eventually show up everywhere.
We haven’t seen any real flu here yet (NC). One virus-y thing that’s going around here has low level recurring sore throat, laryngitis, cough, slight coryza – everytime you think it’s gone, it comes back again – way more than the two times one sees with most enteroviruses. It just keeps coming and going for several weeks. No one gets really ill with it, but it’s extremely annoying. Ars or Chinin-ars are helpful (the virus comes with a severe chilliness, desire for warm drinks, etc…). I’ve also encountered a Gels virus in family members in New Mexico. Keynote symptom is pain radiating from left chest through to scapula. Otherwise, muscle aches, feeling blah, feeling exhausted and needing to sleep all the time, feeling weak, no appetite, slight nausea.

Excellent case! Thanks for sharing.
I've had 6 cases of a similar flu - all but one have responded immediately to Sulphur - the other to Nux-V (acute for Sulph). Two cases - both children but in separate parts of the country - got "the giggles" after the first dose (1 tsp 30c water dose) and then got up to play within minutes.
