Re: IUDs

I did just that, but settled on a much more applicable remedy for the entire
case. I'm frankly a little bit worried about the crude dose effect
here--sure, its the law of similars, but It doesn't seem to be curative, if
you know what I mean...specially since I know we'll eventually get to the
point where there's too much leaching copper in this woman's system.

So I'm getting all the good information for some natural alternatives
together...while we see how she does on her remedy.

Regards,
Nancy

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for this note...I did caution this patient about the IUD use, and I
am aware that the copper content in the body isn't a good thing for her..At
the end of our consult, I mentioned some drug free alternatives she was
quite interested in looking into some natural forms of birth control which
involve close monitoring of the body for signs and status of the cycle as
well as some barrier methods. She's young and feels she had to demand quite
a bit of respect from her doctors in order for them to suggest something
other than the hormonal formulations they all push on women. These were
very problematic for her--all she can say about the IUD is that it hasn't
subjected her to the same emotional distress as the Pill...so she's okay
with it for now.

I appreciate the information about the dangers of the IUD, and I'll pass
along some more information along the lines you've provided to my patient.
I did point out, in my post, that what seems partly curative at this stage
of the game is only going to become problematic in the future, as I don't
think this IUD is doing anything curative at the moment. But it is allowing
this patient to pursue her goals, and this is quite inportant to her now.
As she becomes more aware, I know she'll select something else.

Thanks again for your help,
Nancy

Dear Nancy

This seems like an aspect of the similia principle at work but a proving
response will probably follow.

It has been my clinical experience that women, after use of a copper-based
IUD, experience short term sterility following removal.
Copper and zinc are inimicable and the gonads are the largest repositories
of zinc in the human body. It seems to take a while for the balance to be
retored in favour of zinc after the removalof such an IUD.

Almost 30 years ago I read a research paper which discussed the fact that
such copper devices produce free radicals and it was purported that they are
the cause of problems after use of copper IUDs; old research, I know, but
side-effects of contraceptives is an area generally given a wide berth by
our allopathic colleagues.

Apart from cramping and heaving bleeding in some women, the "inert" IUDs are
generally thought to cause little trouble unless they become impacted (a
rare occurrence).

We need to keep in mind though, that their mode of action is generally
abortifacient and that may have moral/ethic consequences for some and
physiological consequences for others (especially women who've never been
pregnant) since there's evidence emerging in "the Literature" that women who
abort a first trimester pregnancy have a 50% increased chance of getting
breast cancer because of the oestrogen surge. It's oestrogen which governs
the growth of the ductal system in the breast and, it's in the first
pregnancy that new duct growth is most prolific as the body prepares to
lactate for the first time.
