Do you know why the dogs were prescribed sulphur,
in what potency, and how often they were given it?

I cannot understand why the sulphur should have killed
two dogs. I haven't known of any remedy doing
that to any animal.

It's difficult to debate this issue, or to throw light on why
the two dogs died, without knowing why the dogs
were prescribed sulphur in the first place.

You say the dogs were strays. Do you mean you just
took them in from the street, and if so did the vet give
them a thorough check over, or were they from a rescue
home? How long had you had the dogs when you gave
them sulphur?

A bit more info would be useful.

Like I said originally, I was prescribed sulphur to give to
our dog Lucky for a very bad skin condition, and within
two weeks it had cleared up beautifully.

that two dogs died, but we don't know from what.

In my own experiences I have never known of any
homeopathic remedy kill any animal.

I prescribed SULPHUR 30 SKIN problem in Alsatian dog .It worked very well
.Ofcourse it was SINGLE dose.

Hi Christine, I had first heard this on one of Richard Pitcairn's tapes, He was talking abt when he first started homeopathy, and he gave a suph 10m for skin problems, and the skin prob cleared up, and the dog ended up paralized, and nothing he tryed (alopathicly, or homeopathicly) could help the dog, which had to be put down. He also says that sulph seldom helps a dog with skin problems, usualy causes aggravation with no benefit. He has written a rep for dog skin problems, to fit dogs better, and I noticed sulph has been downgraded alot from bold type in other reps, down to reg type. I have alot of respect for him and what he says, as he has the experience.' He also says sulphur is a good cat remedy.
Then on one of my other lists someone posted that their dog had been prescribed sulph, and had started to (hemorrhage ??) When she took the dog to emergency , the DVM said that he has seen dogs do this before after being given homeopathic sulphur. I didn't post , or ask questions because it is not a homeopathic list. But I thought it's not good when one alopathic DVM has seen this before.
The only way to learn what's is hapening is for homeopathic vets to look in their past records to see if there is a high insidence of sulphur causing problems?? By exchanging notes and experiences is the fastest way to learn. Sorry I can't help any more than this, the only bad experience I've had myself with sulph, is it was prescribed to my dog by a holistic DVM, 10m, all he had was an awful agravation with no benefit. You have given me food for thought, so to speak. Your
email has certainly highlighted a possiblity I hadn't considered. with
sulphur.

The only experience I've had with sulphur was a very good one. Our dog
Lucky lost all the fur on his front leg. That was the first time I became
involved with homeopathy and took Lucky to a homeopathic vet, who prescribed
sulphur. The condition cleared up beautifully and he had no side affects -
but he had only been prescribed three tablets and then I had to wait a
fortnight and observe results.

I don't know what that potency was but I'm sure it wasn't as high as 10m.
To me, that sounds extremely high!

He was using this as an example of homeopathic suppression. Any
incorrect, but similar remedy can create havoc in the individual. Not
just Sulphur (or Silica, or Calcarea, or...).

I can't comment on that as it has not been my experience. This kind of
serious (fatal) reaction would indicate that there was some underlying
pathology which the Sulphur stirred up and the Vital Force was just not
strong enough to deal with in a more appropriate fashion.

For this reason, in general, lower potencies are more applicable in
cases where there is pathological tissue changes. Unfortunately the
presence of this pathology may not be known in advance (one reason why
it's always a good idea to test the individual reaction/sensitivity
with a lower potency).

Some homeopaths don't perform any diagnostic testing (bloodwork,
x-rays, etc.) as they deem it unnecessary. These tests however can
provide invaluable clues to the presence of pathology and can be very
useful both for offering prognoses and monitoring the course of
treatment.
