No doubt the stresses of simply trying to negotiate her life added to
the pain she suffered as well as the clot forming.
Her description of living poor barely touches the surface of the reality.
When people remove their blinders, what is visible is a society with a
kick-them-when-they're-down mentality. While not have Irene's dibility,
I have lived poor, dealt with the poor and institutions dealing with the poor
and disenfranchised. The reality of bigotry and classism, in all its forms, is
core to this country and the way it controls the public--divide and conquer
based on hate.
