Thanks, John. The group at our co-op that's fighting for GMO labeling will be happy to see this. One more arrow in the quiver.
Peace,
Dale

Yes!

We nominally have GM labelling in Australia. The loopholes in the regulations are enormous, though: in practice, nothing at all has a GM label on it except a few foods that state that they're GM free, so the labelling requirement has been to no purpose except to offer misleading assurances.

Interestingly, there are a few food companies that state in writing to individual customers that they insist upon only GM-free ingredients from their suppliers; but they're reluctant to label their products accordingly. It would probably be useful for such companies to hear the encouragement of customers directly to boldly state their commitments on their products. Companies that come to mind that I know have stated such commitments include Greens, Carman's Kitchen, Lindt, and Patties Foods (though Lindt is presently keeping the door open by stating that it will use non-GM products as long as they're available, effectively telling growers that if they stop growing real food, that's all right with Lindt).

Of course, all food companies that use ingredients that are likely to be from GM sources (especially corn or soy) could use enquiries from a few customers as to their commitment to health and environments through exclusion of GM-derived ingredients. Only by seeing direct expression of our awareness of their ingredients and our concern for their genuineness will they realise that their shares of their respective markets are at stake.

Kind regards,

John

It is now illegal for any US state to make a GMO labelling law.

Irene, Dale and John: I missed this thread. Are you saying that TPP will make it illegal?

Thanks,
Vicki

I don't think the DARK act has been passed yet. That would make state labeling illegal.
Here's one of the organizations people may contact to fight this heinous bill:

Correct, I was misinformed.
Here is the site for updates, which does not look good:
https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/114/hr1599

On 25 June "The bill now has 68 cosponsors (54 Republicans, 14 Democrats)."
