This is why the natural farmers in my area grow and prepare , ie grind their own organic feed. There is a whole group of us who no longer buy 'commercial' feeds for our animals.

The teeth tell the story. We are omnivores meant to eat bugs too, but I don't know any humans that eat bugs. So we do have a choice in what to eat.

But oh yes, some cultures do eat and value bugs! Cockroaches come to mind, and cicadas. And I have also read that (a) they are never harmful, and in fact (b) when you eat e.g. flour with bugs in it, you're actually getting more nutrients from the bugs than from the grain. Including B-12, I read, though I would not want to stake my nutritional status on that…

I also have a friend who years ago remarked that a pb&j sandwich with ants all over it actually tastes not that bad, "kind of peppery." He's tougher than I am!

Sounds terrific. My area organic farmers try to be puristic but often are not.
There is one small farm family literally down the road that distributes certified organic feed to many of the farmers.
I can buy certified organic fertilizer here also which is brought in on a monthly basis for people who phone order.

When there was a recent plaque of locusts in Israel a couple of years ago people were eating them chocolate covered. They are kosher according to the bible!!

Yep, not to my liking but then I wasn’t raised with that cuisine.
Bugs are a good source of protein and learned that years ago when looking at cultural anthropology

Oh, I am aware that we have been eating bugs forever. But I personally do not know anyone who does eat them.
The grubs are said to be exceptionally good if held over a fire on a stick and cooked.
Don't know that I want to try them myself.

That 99% figure that I also hear in other contexts means nothing. Since you are a female and I am a male, I share much less that 99% of my genes with you. That 99% figure assumes that zero percent is the starting point. But I share many genes with amoeba. I don't know what percentage, but I am sure that it is above 40%.

But the real and only question is: were our ancient ancestors selected for an omnivore diet (with no processed foods, etc)? There is absolutely no question that they were, except in the minds of agenda driven people who are not thinking clearly.

You choose to eat omnivore doesn't mean you must.
The bushmaster snake whose venom is used to make Lachesis is not an herbivore yet has eyes on the side.

Humans are 99% genetically identical to gorillas who are herbivores, they don't eat meat.
