Roger,
I have also had success with a low carb/low GI diet (+exercise) for my Type 2 inherited diabetes. The only time I know it is not actually reversed but just controlled is when I get a bad cold /flu and my blood sugar goes up and will not come down whatever I do until the infection has passed.

Dear Shannon,
Since I started getting swelling in my feet, and I can't really do too many fruits and roots. I have become hardcore about low-carb, and it is working. But other wise people who have no diabetic symptoms can do paleo and do fruits and roots.
People, I think that Shannon understands as I do that evolution also plays a role in the adaptations of grain. The grains with the anti-nutrients were more likely to survive and have baby grains than those that did not. So wheat has anti-nutrients like phytic acid and lectins and probably others. The animals that ate grains with anti-nutrients were less likely to thrive as well as other animals that did not eat grains, so the grains with the anti-nutrients thrived.
On the other hand, fruit do better if eaten by animals who will spread their seeds far and wide. So the fruits that tasted best and were best for the animals tended to thrive.
It is just an application of the Theory of Evolution. It all makes perfect sense. We adapted to our culinary environment for the past 2.5 millions years. On the other hand, the families and clans that prepared the correct cuisine for the past 10,000 years thrived. So the cuisine adapted to us. This is why I also advocate traditional diets a la Weston A. Price.
And, of course, you have to be true to yourself and your own experience. My wife just cannot metabolize fats very well. Trying to force her to eat fats is not healthy either for her or for me. (:->)
Roger

Don't forget about fruits and roots; our ancestors ate carbs in those forms, and for many people (Paleo Diet!) those don't cause problems.
I heartily agree with you about low carb and no wheat!
Shannon
