Re: Speaking of cats.....

Good question....and answer is .. no, close, but:
It is useless stuff, there is no great cat food yet.
It is defined for cat food as: "Powdered Cellulose - purified, mechanically disintegrated cellulose prepared by processing alpha cellulose obtained as a pulp from fibrous plant materials."
It really should be rice bran as a cat-fermentable fiber to feed gut bacteria. Cat gut acteria have zero ability to use cellulose as fiber.
I tolerate it here as it is nontoxic - better than say potato, which has 3 toxins, and raises pH and damages kidneys.
Flaxseed is also undesirable in cat food.
CURRENT COMMERCIAL DRY CAT FOOD CHOICES.
My current USA/Canada commercial top choice dry cat food is Redmoon petfoods' Chicken and Salmon formula:
Ingredients
Protein 40%.
Chicken, Chicken Meal, Salmon Meal, Brown Rice, Rice Starch, Chicken Liver, Chicken Fat (Naturally Preserved With Mixed Tocopherols, A Source of Vitamin E), Salmon Oil (Naturally Preserved With Mixed Tocopherols), Rice Bran, Dried Pumpkin, Sea Salt, Choline Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid (Source of Vitamin C), Beta-carotene, Niacin Supplement, Inosital, Thiamin Mononitrate, D-calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Folic Acid, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Selenium Methionine, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Iodate.
Except for overseas, there the top current option is ProPac kitten food. (Here it is GMO so no go)
Diamond Naturals Active Cat is 2nd and a lot cheaper. One must add pumpkin and rice bran, half a teasp a day each to it, plus extra taurine (500mg). Disadvanatae - they are a HUGE company so they do have problems in one or other plant now and then (like salmonella in one of the plants last year). They respond fast, and listen when people call, but meantime cats can suffer.
Third is Costco adult maintenance, and add the same items here plus also add more meat, as protein is too low.
There is no fourth, it used to be VF kitten (Veterinary Formula VF) but the artificial Vit K in it is way too toxic (menadione). It is illegal in USA to use natural Vit K in commercial cat food. Thanks FDA! Mfrs either have to use menadione or leave it out. Better manufacturers leave it out rather than poison the cats, VF includes it so as not to be sued for Vit K deficiencies, AAGH...but no food bag warns customers to add some oysters or a real Vit K supplement either!
The FDA is KILLING us and our pets. That seerms to be their main function. Federal Death Agency.
Namaste,
Irene
