Hi,
Both potassium and magnesium are available in great amount in our vegetables. Presumably Carol and her brother eat vetables. Why would it be advantageous to take in extra pill supplies? Wouldn't one think that absorption is a problem before adding pill sources?
Best,
Ellen

Not really, it depends on the soil and how it has been treated over time. Also we need more for modern life stresses than the ape men did. People need at least 500mg magnesium a day, more if there is stress, more if there is hhigh calcium intake, more if food is from depleted soils.
To get 500mg you need to eat - DAILY - using the higest magnesium foods known:
21 cups of raw spinach
or more than three cups of cooked spinach
or half a cup of squash or pumpkin seeds
or 2 and half cups of pecans
etc
EVERY day.
How many people do you know who get that daily and have a stress free life?
It is basically impossible to get enough magnesium regularly without pills.
There is nothig wrong with pills as a source - certainly food tastes better, but quantity matters.
Namaste,
Irene

You seem to have missed the point that our vegetables do not have enough mag and phos due to soil
deficiencies. Magnesium is quite deficient in people in the US. It is now considered by many to be the
new Vit D meaning that mag deficiencies are almost as great as Vit D in the public.
I eat huge amounts of vegetables and organic dairy and still get cramping relieved by Calcium supplements.

If the nutrients are lackin in fruits and vegetables, why has life expectancy increased and people are aging more gracefully?

Exactly! They are coddled all through life, sheltered from trauma, and then "saved" over and over again by feats of medical technology, but never is the life force nurtured. The race is terribly weak, and all resulting from the effects of civilization.

People are living shorter lives in the US—latest stats
People are not aging gracefully. They live their lives from one medical emergency to another to bankruptcy.
Witness the case of an 80 yr old woman with a ruptured bowel who tells me how wonderful the medical industry
was taking care of her. My reply was that if the medical industry was taking care of her they would have
noted the problem bowel functioning and rotten diet years ago and addressed the problem before it resulted in
a rupture, colostomy bag for month and now a second surgery!
A dear friend in her 60’s is in a similar predicament—one emergency after another at this time of her life as her
body is not taken care of my either her or the medical industry and keeps breaking down. Increasing drugs and more
surgery is all they can offer her. How depressing—and she is very depressed.
Nothing graceful in either of these people’s stories.

They take a lot of supplements.
Journal of American Medical Association showed in 1993 (using 1990 statistics) that expenditure on supplements exceeded all expenditure on Western medicine in USA for example, and it increases steadily every year.

Or they use their wits and buy up the supplement companies/factories (a large percentage of the are now owned by drug companies) – stop using the high grade natural ingredients that were first used – and rip the money out of you for an inferior product that takes ages for the users to realise that the product is not the same as it was and that you have been duped yet again by a drug company whose aim is profit not health Pauline

It is that kind of statistic that specifically resulted in the Drug corporations creation of the
Quackbuster movement along with fortunes spent on marketing spin and fear mongering.
I would also venture to say that it lead to many biased and fraudulent studies to prove
supplements, herbs and homeopathy were placebo or dangerous. They should have something
to fear as an informed public with access to real information and choices will reject those
toxic uses of drugs and surgery
