mag citrate does not have any calcium.
if you want a calc/mag combo then that is what you buy; if
not, then you buy the mag cit only. if you are dealing with a mag
deficiency, then you would want to take more mag than calc; actually
reversing the proportional ratio.
further, I never trust any brands sold in a standard pharmacy.

Donna,
SlowMag is a commercial drugstore product and has TWICE the amount of calcium per mg than magnesium citrate in it and that could contribute to other issues depending on patient's current calcium levels.
http://www.slowmag.com/guide/guide.aspx
Better to get magnesium citrate and other forms pure, some of my favs are magnesium taurate, magnesium malate, magnesium aspartate or a blend of mags from a healthfood store, Whole Foods, etc.

Currently I'm using BlueBonnet brand which is buffered magnesium glycinate chelate considered highly absorbable. BB is more expensive and has many "free" certifications, is Vegan, Kosher, but goes on sale and is sold over web at discount.
http://www.bluebonnetnutrition.com/prod ... 0_mg_Vcaps
http://www.bluebonnetnutrition.com/products/minerals
Just dont' use any magesium oxide which is considered least absorbed and is in most commercial store brands.
Best,
Susan

Here are two pure magnesium chloride products from reputable health brand names, Alta, Nutricology, with approximately same elemental magnesium per serving, 66mg. It's the amount of magnesium, not the total mg. value of the product that one should calculate, if not shown on label.
http://www.vitacost.com/nutricology-mag ... ide-liquid
http://www.vitacost.com/alta-health-pro ... m-chloride
SlowMag has 71.5mg elemental magnesium per pill but also 119mg of calcium.
I usually don't buy vitamins at a pharmacy unless it's brands I know of like Solgar, TwinLabs, Sundown because they most times use cheap and more allergen fillers and also synthetic vs natural forms like dl- vs. d- of vitamins and amino acids but there are some good CVS, Walgreen's, Rite Aid, etc. products if you read the label closely.

Oops, meant to say SlowMag has almost twice the calcium to magnesium CHLORIDE.
The perpetuated 2:1 Ca/Mg ratio idea comes from a USDA study, the US Dept of Agriculture.
What other great recs has the USDA given us? Eat more grains is one.
Here they are promoting GMO papaya in Japan. Didn't even know there was GMO papaya!

Check the Slow Mag. If it is the same overseas as it is here in RSA, then the tablets are Mag chloride (inorganic – not good) and the capsules are chelated (better)

and by the way, the reason the original Slow Mag was slow release was not to pander to “slow steady blood level”. mag chloride is irritant and not well absorbed, the same as Mag sulphate – which is Epsom salts. As with epsom salts, the body doesn’t want that mag sitting around in the colon too long and so it expels it – hence the laxative effect for both.
In RSA our slow mag is only magnesium, so it varies from one country to the next. Check your labels.

Paul

Watch the film genetic roulette before tomorrow and it gives some insite to how the GMO crops along with round up are causing serious problems with our bodies to absorb nutrients. It is free to watch on the internet until sunday so let your family and friends know. It a very good movie.

There seems to be growing interest in Magnesium. As with Vit D, tests are
showing major deficiencies in the American public due to soil depletion and
rotten eating habits.
What about magnesium citrate as a form of Mag supplement?
I would also look at taking a probiotic supplement and paying attention
to diet in this regard. Fermented foods (real organic soy sauce, cidar vinegar,
pickles, yogurt, etc) are good sources for building probiotics.
Also, need to become more conscious of GMO in foods as they will destroy
the good gut bacteria and show to have destructive impact on digestion and
intestinal wall integrity.

Yes, it is excellent. I have passed it around to many people and groups.
Relative to this discussion, many supplements are made from GMO corn.
Most Vit C for example is from GMO corn. It pays to take some time to call
the mftr before buying supplements to see what they are using.
There is a chemist, Dr. Judd, who has an extensive website on dealing with teeth health.
Magnesium is one supplement that he recommends strongly, along with Vit C.
He suggests a product that is free from all additives (sounds good, huh?) and it is
cheap. A call to the company told me that they got it from China and that it was
GMO free, but they did not test it. They are relying on govt inspectors who do not
do any testing. We know that the number of inspectors was never sufficient, and
with cut backs is even lower. I did not buy from them, but did get Mag citrate from
Solgar even tho is had fillers.

The hip is the fruit of the rose (sort of a hard, dry berry-like thing), and easiest way to prepare it would be as tea. I don't know about the rest, tho. Shannon
