Then I would go with using it down lower, as Sheri suggests, to get the higher dilution.
But I would also make sure he's giving it at least 50 good, strong whacks -- unless he is either oversensitive or not enough stamina for that, in which case he should do what works for him.

Not the type of patient that you could give a choice to. Best to give a definite plan.

Look at the difference between x, c and LM scales. Greater dilution seems to lead to greater depth of action. (More or less, or something like that...) How significant it would be, esp. when beginning with e.g. c or LM, I don't know... I wouldn't think it would make a huge difference, tho. Have him try it different ways and see if he has preference?
So there is more substance/water with the energy in the molecules?

Why refill at 25% though? Refill at 1 teaspoon

It just occurs to me, if he's using an LM, probably the number of whacks to go with would be whatever (argh I can't remember) is recommended for when you put the dry LM pellet into the 8 oz bottle. Remind me? (sheepish)

It all has to be individualized
You give one dose and see how they do and then work from there
For chronic cases usually start with 1 teaspoon from bottle in dilution cup and 1 teaspoon from there
More sensitive people get larger bottle, less of a dose, and even more dilution bottles.
There is NOTHING routine about this at all.................

I'll post my instructions I give to patients - of course will be individualized

Nothing in the organon that describes the size bottle that you use, the dose or the succussions - sorry to say, rochelle

Ah, in that case I would personally go with both smaller amount remaining before dilution (aiming for a 1:99 ratio-ish) and also with at least 50 good, strong whacks.

When running up potency *levels*, you are doing initial potentiztion on the entire contents, not just a little juicing up to what has already been done.

My understanding is that different pharmacies use different numbers of whacks between potencies; that Hahnemann uses 100 whereas others use 10 or 20? I think that's what I remember, from quite a while back. But when I was doing it for myself, the effect was definitely better (stronger) when I used at least 50 whacks. 100 seemed more to my liking, but was just too tiring for me, and 50 was fine. Maybe if my whacks were stronger, fewer would have been sufficient. I've also sometimes done it with less, but I do notice the difference.

Shannon

Shannon, where is this written in the organon - 50 good strong whacks?

If someone who is used to 5 succussions suddenly goes to 50 succussions, it could have serious consequences.

Switching between e.g. Boiron, which as I recall is made with 10 succussions, to same remedy by Hahnemann Pharmacy -- made with 100 whacks -- is a noticeably different experience, but in no way traumatic so far as I have ever heard. Same idea.

Hahnemann-the-man gives different numbers in different places.
