Tanya, it may be treated in late stages in humans because you can get some good feedback from human patients which gives you clues as to the effectiveness of the Rx prescriptions. Animals are unable to give sufficient feedback to really work a hard case like late stage Lyme that has had antibiotics.
With my dogs in late stage Lyme after receiving tons of antibiotics as well as other treatments, homeopathy has not been sufficiently curative. That’s the problem with waiting to treat Lyme in dogs – antibiotics really disguise the symptoms, cover it up, and run the disease deeper to the point the case is really incurable.
The main point I was trying to relay – don’t wait! Treating acute Lyme disease is the only way to go.

I certainly wasn't suggesting to wait before treating such a condition.
However, when there is a delay, for whatever reason, it can still be worked with homeopathy.
Antibiotics are known to have a poor record with Lyme with many people sufferring recurrent bouts of the
same attack and the disease going deeper into the body systems.
As for your concern about not being able to get the case, one should deal with a good animal communicator,
particularly one who does medical conditions. Then you will get the sensations and modalities, etc.
But granted the job has become harder at late stage.
