In Mac Repertory you can go dongle free, but then you are limited to one computer only; if you need 2 or more computers at different locations, you need to carry your dongle from one to the other.
Many years ago, when I just arrived in NZ, I thought I would be a good Belgian patriot and represent Radar in NZ. So they sent me a free programme, instructional videos and loads of documentation and leaflets, then an invoice for all the advertisement material......when I asked if that was their latest Belgian joke, as I was never warned that I, as a representative of the company, would have to pay for their publicity, Archibel Belgium reacted as if I had insulted them, requested their dongle back and never again talked to me.....
Well, I am still with MacRep.............
Also have a look at Homeoquest, an Australian programme that seems to be pretty good, don't know if they use dongles......should be easy to Google them.....

You know, I upgraded to Opus this fall. A couple of years before that I chewed Kim's ear off for a half an hour about what I wanted from Radar. In Opus, I think he is giving me everything that I wanted. It is the not genius functions that I am looking for. Opus is full of those functions. I have to deal with sad reality like a poor photographic memory. Actions like going back to an earlier rep. Opus can now do that. If Opus gets me to do more research, that would be icing on the cake. But, it seems like a really beautiful upgrade. It is still incomplete, so I can't judge. But I really should not bad mouth Radar.
Also, in the past the thought of having to contact Belgium for technical assistance was reason enough to get a stomachache. In my most recent interchange that was not the case at all. I have no idea what has changed. It is like contacting that wonderful person Chris in the US. I really was helped and no reason for a stomachache.

I could not say I am loyal, but I appreciate the hard work that has gone into making Opus. If Sheri can do it all with books she is a better homeopath than me. I wish I could say the same.

I think I have spent a total of about 2000 dollars. I am not nearly as good with research as you are Sheri. So I am happy with the money spent.

If I were going to do it again and wanted to not spend a huge wad, I would go for Roger Vandevoort, the Complete. http://www.completedynamics.com/ His rep on the web seems pretty good. He also has references. You pay a fee each year and you do not have to haul around a computer. Use someone else's on the web when you travel. You download it, but it is also available on the web with all the reaping functions.

But I am totally invested in Radar and now Opus. Hard to change. Still I am all for Roger's work. These expensive reps are really not the future of homeopathy. Everyone needs good access.

The browser version is free anyhow and can be freely downloaded

I was recently looking for a rubric and couldn't find it in Synthesis yet it was their in Roger's rep.

I put up this message separately, but I want to make it clear that Radar does allow you to replace a dongle for 100 dollars. So what I said it untrue.
The work that goes into making these computer programs, marketing them and then servicing them is incredible. No matter who is doing it. It was wrong of me to say anything inflammatory about Radar or anyone who devotes their lives to this important work. I think at some level the computer seems like such a struggle that even the program that I depend upon so heavily seems like the enemy. Like my computer, at any moment it is going to fall apart. Having poor book researching skills is part of this helpless feeling. Feeling grounded and independent of all this intricate software and hardware is something that I need to cultivate.

In the business of software there are no companies that continue to support older versions while there are newer ones available. If I need support for example for CAD12 or Excel 97, I cannot simply call them up and expect or get support. For example none of the anti-virus softwares available, support their older versions by more than 1 yr. They all require that you upgrade constantly. The same could be said for any professional software in any field.
When you buy Radar/Opus you get free tech support. And there is no requirement for upgrades at all. You can just upgrade when you want to. I ran Radar 9 for almost 10 yrs. Never had a problem. Got wonderful tech support etc. But just like if I lost my key for CAD12 and it was 5+yrs. after purchase they will not have another key/dongle waiting for you. Same for Photoshop. These companies cannot afford to support several widely varying versions of their older software and that is why none of them do it. It is economically unfeasible.

The quality of the programme is not in question, it is the relationship some of us had with some of the management that could make my hair stand on my head if I still had any....
