Hi Shannon
How much do you give each one? My little one is 7 pounds, what would you recommend for the brewers yeast?

Hi Donna,
I'm not sure how this would fit into raw feeding, but all of our animals (cats and dogs) have always done *great* with free-choice brewers yeast, offered as a pile on or next to their food, and completely keeps fleas off of them, so long as their yeast supply doesn't run out for more than a day or so. (I aim to keep a pile there right along.) That's worked for me for decades, with some of them eating a lot and others a little, all of them liking it, and effective for all. Perhaps I've just been lucky.

(Now and then the yeast runs out and fleas sneak in, and then it's onto DE and vacuum.)
Shannon
Are you feeding 100% raw meat and bone or are you also giving vegetables? If so, cut out the vegetables.

Spring started with a bang. The flea population has already exploded courtesy of our neighborhood cats – so there is no controlling their distribution and re-infestation throughout the spring and summer. My small dog is sensitive, and it only took one flea and the beginnings of full blown allergic reaction is evident. I have the household routine (DE – and constant vacuuming) and a great comfort shampoo to drown current flea(s) and sooth the skin. He is raw fed and has only rabies inoculation as required by law once every 3 years. Was wondering about the experience of others with appropriate remedy considerations.
Thank you in advance.

What I've always done is to just have a pile available, either on or next to the food, and let them take however much or little they want. They seem to know just how much they need!

Hello Donna,
My previous little fellow that did like the brewers yeast was about 10 pounds. The yeast tablets we found most consistent at that time recommended 2 tablets per 10 pounds of body weight for canines. We occasionally would give a third (as a treat) - but then would skip days as well. I did try the flake variety for a time but found he would only eat it when the box was freshly opened, and within 2 days he would not touch the stuff.

How interesting!
I wonder whether he'd be any more flexible with a powder? (Mine don't seem to care one way or the other.)

Hi all,
don't know why exactly but Mezerium came to mind for the allergy. you might try Mez6 or Mez30.

Thanks Shannon, I actually gave him some this morning and he LOVED it.
I am looking forward to see if this helps. Last summer was not a huge problem but I am wondering since he was on sulphur then if that had something to do with it to
Thanks
Donna

Donna,
Concerning the sulphur your dog was taking last summer – was is a frequent low dose? I have been continuing research – looking for homeopathic approach - and have found at least one vet that is recommending repeated 6c over the course of flea season to make the dogs less appetizing. I would love to learn more about your experience with sulphur even if flea bite prevention was a pleasant 'side effect'.

I have several dogs that are in AKC competitions so they are not spayed. Whenever they go into heat, I give all females chlorophyll tablets in their food. When I lived in Florida (State Insect = the flea), I noticed that during those weeks and for 3-4 days after I stopped the chlorophyll, there were no fleas on them, even when we were out in the Florida Scrub.
Nowadays I spray specialized nematodes in the back yard; in the first year, there were still some fleas, but by the 2nd year, there were almost none.

Hi Donna
He was new to the family this time last year so to clear him out a bit I gave him a dose of sulphur 30c in his water. I believe I did this about once a month for 3 months and it was ironic as I had no problems with fleas until after I had stopped the sulphur but even then I only had a flea or two. I did not put it together until I sat down and looked at my notes.
So this time around I am going to add the sulphur to the water as well and try it once a month again
I will keep you posted
I am also looking into the Australian bush essences as well as I have heard good things about them in terms of prevention
