Hi, Susan
Interesting to hear of your experience with Atenolol, which I believe caused my mom's problem last winter (bradycardia). Rest assured, she is on a wholesome and organic diet now. That was one of the reasons for bringing her to live with my husband and me: she wasn't eating properly. No more cookies or candy or processed foods now. They're not banned from the house; it's just that my husband and I don't eat them, and she's chosen to follow our example, even though she's not pre-diabetic.
We're intrigued by the changes a better diet has wrought. Her hair, which had turned snowy white when she was ill last winter, is growing in black, her natural color. At her age, that's pretty cool.
And no, she won't be going to the gym. You can lead a horse to water...
Peace,
Dale

Some thoughts/responses to your post:
1. cutting sugar and processed foods is not just about diabetes. sugar is a general inflammatory in the body and
processed foods are filled with more junk and chemicals and gmo's than one could begin to list. their consequences,
though, are well described in all the numerous dis-ease conditions, including heart problems
2. am very interested in her hair growing back in her original color. i know that our body produces hydrogen peroxide
which is one of the reasons for hair going white. another is an enzyme, i believe. what are you doing with food that
might be unique to your family to create this hair coloring change?
3. exercise can be done in any venue. you might introduce your mom to simple weight lifting with 1 or 2# dumbells for example.
or maybe yoga, chi gungy, tai chi as gentle exercises. or pilates, much of which are simple movements.
