I actually asked my doctor who said that the NHS don't offer this at all. I asked because my sister is depleted in in.

Does that mean that *no* doctor in Britain does the test????
If you know your sister is depleted, then she could certainly begin with any of the dosages mentioned--e.g. 5,000 IU or 10,000 IU daily--for *many* months, if not longer, before there could be any concern about overdose... Maybe by then someone will have started offering the test!

You can't get a blood test in UK without going through the Doctor and I was told that there is no test specific for Vit D. I take 2400iu a day of Vit D3

"no test specific for Vit D"???????? Er, I think they are mistaken...
Some links:
http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/
(which notes,
"There are 3 ways for adults to ensure adequate levels of vitamin D:
* [...]
* take 5,000 IU per day for 2–3 months, then obtain a 25-hydroxyvitamin D test . Adjust your dosage so that blood levels are between 50–80 ng/mL (or 125–200 nM/L) year-round.

Maybe show these to your doctor?
Good luck!!!!!

I went to the second link and could click the UK flag. It does describe the test!!! I am seeing the practice nurse tomorrow and will ask her. It's not listed on the Pathology sheet where the doctor/nurse ticks the tests required at a blood test. Interesting.

there are labs that you can deal with online. the problem is that you need a doctor
to have the results sent to. so the deal is get your doctor to accept the report whether
they understand it or not. it will be a learning for them. also, give them a couple of
articles on Vit D3. There are MDs who support its use and testing. Joseph Mercola
is and MD and ND and has many online articles. Mayer Eisenstein, MD is a big
promoter of Vit D3. Then there is the Vitamin D Council that you can research online.
The test is about $75.00 american, not too bad. But I agree with Shannon --start yourself
on 5000 iu daily of Vit D3 which is the natural form of this element. You need to remember
that all negative studies have been with the synthetic vit d2.

We have the same situation here. The doctor has to write in a request for an vit d test. It is not
on the printed panel. Doctors still are surprised that anyone would want that test--that is the feedback
people are giving me. But they are doing the tests if the consumer insists.
