I think there should be a better explanation.

Homeopathic remedies mean a single remedy in a dilution form or globule form. Here, the scope of mixing a steroid is nil since the cost difference between a steroid and the solution is in the ratio of 10 : 1 (at least in India). So commercially that is suicide. Who will sell for 1000% loss ?

Any other dispensation where some companies mix two or more remedies and market in a non generic name is where all this is possible. The compound is proprietory and pricing need not follow the same simplex pattern.

In other words if remedy 'a' costs USD 'x' and remedy 'b' costs USD 'y', the mixture will not and need not be x+y in the market. The price will be multifold. Here, to increase the effectiveness of the mixture, some companies or practioners mix steroids. The retail price will easily accommodate the cost of steroids. Some practioners may even give steroid saying it as homeo remedy.

This the full background as I know it. Not all do it. But, as is the case, the Allopathic Industry always makes a molehill into a mountain esp when it concerns Homeopathy, its bete noire.

If homeopathic remedies are analysed in a lab then the results
for some reason suggest a possibility that the sample may
contain steroids.
I remember reading that remedies made with alcohol will upon
analysis sugest the possibility of it containing steroids. The
answer I believe is to tell the analysing lab that the sample
contains alcohol and then the lab will take this into account.

I remember reading something similar but it was the lactose that caused
it to read positive for steroids, but the info I saw was actually
definitely steroids being given. With regards to Shannon's comment it
was probably two or three years ago that I read it.

Priscilla,
What a wonderful question. Hopefully this will be an eye-opener to you and to your doctor. There are so many products that contain a homeopathic ingredient - that then advertise themselves as being homeopathic. There are also many practitioners that claim to be homeopaths that are practicing something that none on this list would recognize as homeopathy. So as a consumer, you will need to learn more about real homeopathy and how to read the labels of products that claim to be homeopathic. You'll soon learn there are some excellent companies that produce real homeopathic remedies, and you'll be able to find them through reputable pharmacies, health food stores, and online.

Several people on this list have wonderful websites that have segments on 'how to find a homeopath' - perhaps they will be kind enough to post their URLs again. There are also wonderful introductory books on the subject. There is nothing really 'hard' or 'confusing' about homeopathy - in fact it is remarkably simple, logical and straightforward - however it requires training and experience to be of the greatest benefit. Dig in, start doing a little research, and you will quickly see the difference between the homeopaths (and homeopathic products) that follow the basic concepts of Dr. Hahnemann, and those who chose to mix a little of this and a little of that.
Since homeopathy requires understanding the 'total' situation - it will be very important for you to find the right homeopath - one with whom you feel comfortable - and one who will answer your questions directly. If possible, take your time and find the right practitioner. Your families health, now and long term, will greatly benefit.
