I know this sounds extreme but in addition to the homeopathy, what about the old-fashioned leech therapy. Leeches are well known to increase circulation.
I know the thought conjures up some unappetizing images but it may be worth further investigation.
Here's a BBC article about the company:

This is just something to put in your arsenal just in case the need arises.

Not necessarily a peculiar feature of Vipera, but a noticeable one. In my limited experience with this remedy, I think it's common to find injuries that started to heal, then for no apparent reason started to go bad. I suggested Vipera because it also has the wooden sensation so prominently reported, as well as better from gentle motion.
As for the medical advice about elevation, I think it's to reduce the possibility of blood pooling (and increasing the inflammation); it doesn't necessarily make one feel better.
Peace,
Dale

Re: swollen and grey colored hand
The reason i'd questioned it was just that in a string of my own injuries over a couple of years, I noticed again and again that the injured limb felt awful on hanging down, and much better on being elevated. I meant to try Vipera but didn't have it and somehow never got around to getting it! I wish now that I had!
Would love to know whether it would or wouldn't have helped. (I don't remember either wooden feeling or better from gentle motion, and also didn't get around to reading up on Vipera...) But is it actually unusual for the limb to *feel better* being up?? If so, I'm especially intrigued, and will make it a point to get hold of some.
