Just to add to this (and I never found the mutilate rubric, thanks, Joy) I have (or had) trichotillomania, in my case it was pulling out eyelashes, from roughly ages 13 to 60. Believe me, it's an almost impossible to resist compulsion. As a student, I took a dose of Nat Mur 30C for some other reason. Before the pills were dissolved in my mouth (didn't know about Organon 6 then) the compulsion disappeared - after 47 years, you know when the monkey gets off your back - and never returned. Blew me away.
Trich includes a big shame component; many people with it will deny it in spite of all evidence to the contrary, so it makes sense that the person would not want to talk about it. I've also read about the eating hair thing (ugh!) which can can lead to incredibly horrible health problems. Glad I missed that part.
