Interesting! I've found the LM medicines I've purchased from Remedia in
Austria http://www.remedia-homeopathy.com/ to have a really strong impact
compared to those I bought from Helios.

Just to add another factor into the discussion...I wonder if that has
anything to do with the fact that Helios doesn't generally triturate crude
organic substances as advised in the Organon in the first stages of LM
preparation? (They will if specifically requested by the customer.)

If I remember correctly, Helios uses tinctures and dilution/succussion up to
the 3C stage before commencing the 1:50000 LM scale. I think their reason is
that stocks of crude substances which have been triturated don't maintain
their integrity all that long, even when properly dried (because they're
organic they have to eventually decompose). So it is a matter of economy to
Helios to use tinctures rather than triturate.

It is all very interesting - and as I said, surprising. Surprising that with all our tendencies to precision in dosage and prescribing we seem to accept fundamentally differing methods in preparation of basis of our remedies, ignoring Hahnemann in this while examining every nuance and adverb in other contexts. Also surprising that pharmacies don't feel the need to clarify things such as strengths and methods in their tincture preparation in the same way that herbal pharmacies would. We really shouldn't need to be having this discussion!
Remedia sounds as if it would be using German pharmacopeia -or are they triturating herbs? If not it is hard to see why lms might be different from helios ones. By the time you get to an LM how important is the exact strength of the MT anyway? I really don't know.

Hi Theresa, Thanks for sending your article. Yes, Remedia Homoeopathic Pharmacy in Austria uses guidelines from Organon V and VI, Chronic Diseases, and the 2008 edition of the HAB (German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia) as guidelines in remedy manufacture. They maintain that earlier editions of the HAB don't contain proper information about triturating fresh plant material as directed by Hahnemann, so I think it is fantastic when a homoeopathic pharmacy is dedicated to accurate replication, as far as possible, for manufacture. As you probably know, in some parts of Europe, LM remedies are more properly called Q-potencies (after the Latin - Quinquagintamillesimal-potencies, since the numerals LM actually equate to something other than 50,000...).
Apart from the terminology, Remedia maintains that "Q-potencies" are not actually the same as "LM remedies" because the latter are manufactured without the crude organic substance being triturated to the 3C level. Instead, tinctures of organic substances are used in LM preparation to the 3C level. This is again surprising (seems some of us are destined to be continuously surprised and astonished by things...) because already in 1835 Hahnemann had reputedly stopped using tinctures of all soluble organic material in favour of trituration. Initially the trituration process was continued to the 12C level (wow, how many hours/days would that take???) but then settled at triturating to 3C and using that as the most suitable jumping off point for further dilution/succussion of potencies. According to Steven Cayne, in his book, 'Homeopathic Pharmacy', " ...Compared with medicines produced from mother tinctures and solutions, this offered advantages in more powerful action, longer shelf life and retained constituents."
I was glad to read Cayne's comments, because now I know it wasn't just my imagination about the strength of Remedia's remedies compared to Helios' and other LM remedies purchased from India. Gee, we really settle for less quality these days, don't we?
