Hi Soroush,

I very much like your 'search for the similimum' as a defining statement of what we do - and your expression of abandoning it is very evocative.

The fact that at times the similimum may be elusive and not always achieved does not change that impulse within us to see perfection both for us and our patient. We are driven to pursue it because we know that it is the one thing that will make the fastest and most profound change for the person who has come to us for help.

And it is very true that abandoning this ideal replaces it with something that is second best. The replacement may still bring good but will lack the entrancing gentleness, rapidity, permanency and completeness that a similimum brings. That is why we still strive for it.

I do not use Patented homeo meds. But I do not shut my eyse to it.
A couple of years ago I had repped and isolated a remedy for a patient.
Before I could give it to him, he produced a bottle of combo med. by
Schweppes which, among other meds, also contained the remedy I was
planning to give him. He said his friend had given it to him(a part used
bottle) and asked if he could try it? I found later that it had apparently
worked well for him. He keeps a shelf full of homeo combo meds. for
minor problems - coughs, colds, bruses, cuts, headaches, alimentry ills,
etc. He says with a mob of small kids, he can't afford to visit a doctor for
every little ailment: vomiting, sneezing stomachache, etc. which all small
children suffer from almost all the time...he and his two brothers have 7
small children that live and play together and infect each other.
I believe allopathic meds counter and supress whereas homeo remedies
work with the Immune Sys to rout the ailment. Two quite diffrent approaches.
One should not be confused for the other. Let us not falllaciously assume that
homeo remedies can be applied allopathically - they can not and will not work.
It takes the intervention of the immune system to make homeo meds work.
If in a petri dish we were to add Gels to a mob of catarrh viruses, nothing would
happen. It is the Immune System fortified with Gels that vanquishes the virus.

Dear Jeff
The acutes are guides for the treatment of the chronic. Mess them up and you have a messed up chronic.
That is why combos should not be used.
And also you always need to know how to select the second prescription - how do you do it with a combo?

What is effect of unneeded potentised substances on the body.
Lastly they should not be called Combo homeopathic remedies.

There is no such thing!
They are combo potentised substances for use by those who are not homeopaths.

Actually Jeff, you are wrong.
1. With combos you never know what is working and because of this the potencies are
so low that they are material. You have no control over what is working or interferring.
They are not good choices.
2. If you followed the 'science' you would have read this year that cancer cells treated
in vitro do respond to remedies. This was a major study for homeopathy and took place
in more than 1 university. They found 4 different remedies that killed the cancer cells.
You need to remember that homeopathy is an energy medicine and anything that has
energy can/may be influenced by a remedy in the same way that our bodies are affected.
Like cures like = similar energies are sympathetic to each other.

Most combo medicines seem to contain sarcodes, nosodes and the kind of remedy commonly known as 'organ support'. The philosophy behind them tends to be naturopathic in that it is about detoxing, supporting organs etc. They have not been proved but some, especially the European made branded ones, have been exposed to more and better trials than is the normal case with single remedies. And they come out of them well, within their remits. It is no surprise that people find them useful, especially if they have that kind of perception of 'what needs to be cured', which is not particularly holistic.
I was registered with an organisation at one time who divided the 'homeopathy' category into homeopathy and homeotoxicology. It took the steam out of this particular, perennial argument. I don't really see why a practitioner should not use both approaches at different times either. What I do have trouble with is people who say you can adopt this approach with someone ' and give them constitutional/ classical prescribing at the same time' which, to me, shows a lack of understanding of what is generally understood by constitutional or classical prescribing.

In any case, your disclaimer that you do not use "patented homeo meds" would seem to act as a red herring; what was its purpose in this discussion, which concerns whether it is possible to prescribe homoeopathically the combination your other personality so fervently recommended?
Liz, I'm not rubbishing particularly the desperation that resorts to sympathetic magic, to polypharmacy, and to the touching faith that both Jeff and you have expressed in the power of your beliefs to influence reality. All of these things have their place in a society that prides itself on its tolerance of personal choice, mental aberration, and bizarre delusions.

What I am attempting to do for the umpteenth time is to present you with a challenge that most kindergarten children would accept with glee: of distinguishing between all those methods that use no known relationship between medicine and patient (if you can manage it, look up the word allopathy in a dictionary for adults) and the one method that bases prescription upon a relationship of symptom similarity (now try the word homoeopathy).

If whatever it is that prevents you from noticing any difference between black and white is precious to you, then I'm truly sorry that you keep exposing it to public ridicule. But to insist as you do, year after year, that the methodical approach of homoeopathy may include the random peregrinations you and your fellow desperados favour into an intellectual vacuum is to continue to invite a clout around the ego.

Public dedication to confusion is in any case unbecoming of somebody aspiring to professionality. Perhaps it's time to try something different, such as educating yourself before making claims that any healthy ten-year-old may certify as nonsense.
