i agree that testing is really about gamemanship and knowing
the rules of the game to win. i was very glad to do this
2 month prep course which provided those rules, including
the ones needed to do the cases. my understanding is that
they really only use polychrest cases. further, they want
to see a particular format used for the case presentation.
karen allen puts out a book for studying for the chc which
is probably invaluable if one doesn't take a prep course
geared to the test.
that said, i am not at all convinced that taking the test
is that meaningul since, like most tests, it primarily shows
that you know how to pass a test. the real world is quite
different.

I agree and that it is case presentation under supervision for several years that should be granted the best certificate of all - assessing the success or failure of each candidate vis the success or failure of cases (in varying degrees of complexity). Joy

A significant number of supervised cases, as well as a year or two of full-time practice, and presentation of ten of one’s own successful cured cases are also part of the CHC exam requirements and contents. This wasn’t noted in the previous discussions. Rosemary

I'll look up Karen Allen's book! :-) (For the "someday" that I
finally take the test...)

Definitely the "knowing how to take a test" factor is significant; we
all know that in *every* field there are people who do great on tests
but not so much in practice, and most emphatically also the reverse.
While life may indeed be a "test", it's not graded by any governing
body!

Still, tho, I doubt the tests or certification are really irrelevant.
(And I know a bit about the very sincere effort that has gone and
continues to go into them!) Just as with e.g. grades in high school
and college, while they're certainly not *definitive*, and yet they do
tell *something*. There's probably not a single solution that will
work best for every person... Don't you think it's useful to have
*some* means of showing that a person has learned the basics (or at
least some of them), and that they've done enough of the "circuit" to
assume *some* basic understanding?

Thanks so much for all the great responses to this ... very helpful. I suppose if I decide to do this, it will be odd to try to find a homeopath for clinical observation/formal supervision since I have treated for over 2+ years now.

Don't think of it as being odd then, see it as being useful as I think all practicing homeopaths should have ongoing supervision throughout their time as a homeopath.
