It could be a "venous vagus" incident. There are undoubtedly other names for this phenomenon, but the vagus nerve is stimulated by sudden fluid loss, pain, sight of blood, etc., and shuts down the system abruptly. My ex- used to have these. He'd get up in the middle of the night to urinate -- and collapse. The first time it happened, I thought he was having a stroke!
I now have a teenage patient who's fainted after allergy tests (although in her case I'm not absolutely sure she did not have a seizure).

Dale, this was a very interesting suggestion – makes sense. The rubrics about fainting from seeing blood are really tiny – I suspect that, unfortunately, they may not be complete. It’s such a strong symptom when it occurs… do you have any other rubric suggestions? (I’ve just seen a new client today who happens to have this very symptom…).

As for rubrics, I'm not sure they'll get to the core, although you might try combining GEN., fainting, tendency, blood, at sight of; MIND, blood, wounds; MIND, unconsciousness, blood; MIND, fear wounds.
Perhaps it would be more productive to explore why the Px faints -- what associations does blood have for this person? Is it a reminder that the Px, too, could lose blood? Does it suggest the possibility of violence? Is it blood or pain that actually causes the fainting? Are there other examples of a pronounced parasympathetic nervous response?
