Hello Tanya,

I don’t think there is one answer for everyone or every geographic location. The decision of which system, when to use, etc. depends on the location, water sources, any municipal treatment practices and the basic health of the individual. As to which system is ‘worthwhile’ – that is totally dependent on the water you start with. I would love to have everyone test and pay attention to their water as a matter of basic health – but we all know that’s not going to happen. When anyone is compromised – it becomes critical to pay close attention to water quality. And also so many ‘diseases’ are symptoms of dehydration. So water quality and quantity are always part of my ‘detective work’ with a client.

Au contraire, there are several that are useful--but for different
things. None is perfect, alas.
water is first RO'd, then carbon filtered, then UV light exposed--mm,
yummy! Not so practical for a home system, tho. But our RO water is
TONS better than the :-p that comes out of our tap!!

Thanks Donna, this is great information that I'll check into. (I'm
reading backwards, so wrote my last post about RO before reading this
one.) Our water is well, would be okay except for high nitrates and
some pesticides I think (farming area!). The concentrating of
pollutants is a question I'd wondered briefly about and then I guess
repressed... Yuk.

You feel a distiller (plus carbon filter) would be a better choice?
But the residues are still being concentrated, would then be flushed
into the septic system instead of ground water, which I guess is an
improvement...

Hello Shannon,
The problem in your well is common. Depending on the depth of the well and the nature of your aquifer – toxins may accumulate and reside for decades or centuries. One New England area still has whale oil in their aquifer.
The choice of system is totally dependent on your water, your setup and your needs. I currently use a distillation unit with carbon filtering – but that is based on the supply (and testing) for my area only.
