Re: LM prescribers - question regarding dosing

Speaking of LM, why does my LM1 potency from Hahnemann tell me this a
stock solution, and come with directions that I must dilute it:
succuse the bottle ten times, put 6 drops of stock solution into 4
ounces of distilled water (glass), stir it vigorously, take a half
teaspoon, then discard.

Why do you stir vigorously? Doesn't a remedy penetrate water instantly?

My knowledge of wet remedies (making wet from dry) is that you make a
wet remedy when frequently dosing so as not to get an aggravation, but
that you can re-use that wet remedy bottle for many days, just succus
it again (and if you want to keep it for a long time put some alcohol
in and then it stores more permanently). Also, I was told when making
a wet remedy from dry I could use a 2 ounce bottle.

Why would a 4 ounce glass bottle be necessary. Also if you discard the
solution should you re-use the bottle? (I was also told that a
remedy's vibration stays in the bottle, so you shouldn't re-use a
dosing bottle of any kind).

Anyway, is this typical with LM potencies, that they don't want you to
take it directly? I've never seen directions like this before. Also,
my LM potency is apparently mostly water and a little alcohol but I
guess that is typical with liquid remedies to preserve them. However,
how does one know the alcohol doesn't denature the remedy? I guess
experience shows that it doesn't.

Hi, Jill.

Starting with your last question -- Hahnemann mixed remedies with some
amount of brandy (alcohol) -- I'm sure someone on the list will be able to
give the exact citation. In any case, alcohol (or glycerin) does preserve
the remedy solution from growing contaminants that may already be present in
the water, and doesn't harm the remedy.

The amount of dilution needed, and the amount of stirring, will vary from
one individual to the next.

Also, a "stock bottle" is generally meant to be diluted dose by dose before
a person takes the remedy. If you dilute the remedy in 4 ounces rather than
2, you're making the energetic resonance higher. Either may be appropriate,
in different circumstances.

Hahnemann addresses the question in detail in the latter part of the 6th
Organon. Luc de Schepper gives precise instructions and rationales for
different dilutions, as does David Little.

Hi Rosemary, thanks. That's what confuses me: these universal yet
precise directions sent along as to how to succus, dilute etc. Anyway
I'll wait until my homeopath tells me what to do.

Thank you all for the great feedback on this question. I feel strongly this is this person's simillimum (he's like a walking MM). I think the suggestion for a nosode is spot on and I was wondering as such. He did have a stall a few months back that quickly responded to Med and the remedy worked well again after. I guess I was thinking it should be more to the end of the case, rather than a block again.
I should be careful in my characterization of "all" symptoms returning. And he has experienced a huge shift - both he and his wife feel he is a "completely new person." It is the physical symptoms which creep back in - such as dull headache, phlegm in throat. The most bothersome one most recently being the puffy/itchy eyes - but this is a *very* old symptom returning for him for the first time. He has followed Hering's law to a T and revisited all his illnesses in reverse order. The eye itching was one of his very first issues (and one long forgotten in the interview).
But he maintains his positive M/E improvements. Nat Carb is the remedy. I believe the summer heat is one of the instigating factors right now. Chief complaint was depression, worries, easily angered, feeling distant from family, with physical symptoms of fatigue, chronic nasal catarrh, daily headaches, phlegm in throat, yeast, and easily irritated by noise or family members. He's very sensitive to piano music which ameliorates him a great deal which is definitely unique about him as it is unexpected.
I am going to see how the nosode does and then if he continues to backslide or aggravate, will retake the case. The symptoms still fit the remedy but maybe there is a better fit? Any suggestions/critique are welcome.
Thanks all! I learned a good deal from your feedback.

Erica

H Erica,
My understanding of LMs is that there are two scenarios for aggravation. The first is potentially at the starting phase of each new potency - an aggravation here is related to dosage and tells you how many drops/hits and how many days between each dose. The second happens as you have described with your patent, after using a potency for a while and indicates that it's time to stop and see how the patient does without the remedy. A return of symptoms at this point is the indication for moving to the next potency - so maybe the aggravation that you saw on the LM7 was just about indicating to decrease the number of drops or some other variation on the dose on the new potency. I have read of people going up to LM30.
