Hi Luise,

One problem is that the parts of it that some of us *have* read, are
phrased in such a way as to give basically blanket oversight regarding
anything to do with health. Which is okay if one *trusts* that the
oversight will be done in an even-handed and appropriate way, but many
"alternative" health practitioners have found the history of such
oversight to be far from reassuring. It *does* matter what laws on are
the books!

Sure, because it *pays*! That's happening here in the US as well.
I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, *perhaps* that makes
better alternatives available to people who otherwise would have only
drugs. But on the other hand, I prefer have my herbs and vitamins made
by people who are actually *committed* to herbs and vitamins, not just
doing it because it pays... Also the quality *tends* to be better, tho
one can't assume.

That is indeed good to hear.
But the what's *written* in Codex--at least the small parts that I've
read--gives extremely broad powers of regulation, which could (easily)
be interepreted as giving right of regulation--and also right of
removal--over most any supplement, most definitely including
homeopathic remedies. Broad powers are okay when they are used
sparingly and "beneficiently", but such has
not--historically--necessarily been the case in the US (alternative
practitioners shut down for no good reason; supplements taken off the
market for extremely *POOR* reasons; and occasional strong-arm
tactics...)

Do you know what the justification was? It's not like a nosode in
potency is going to make anyone sick...
This is not a formal position! So far as I've seen, this is not what's
taught in homeopathy schools; at least the ones I've known of in the
US, care is taken to make sure that if the homeopath needs back-up
(even if medical back-up), that will be done.
Absolutely!
We cannot afford, both for legal and for *ethical* reasons, to let
"theory" take precedence over patient care!

Also not the formal claim; some homeopaths actually do advocate certain
ones. (I know because we went to one such, for many years.)
Luise, this position has *NOTHING* to do with homeopathy.
This is an entirely separate idea, which *happens* to be shared by some
people who also *happen* to be homeopaths, but that is all.
Yeah...
These concerns are, IMO, taken way out of context.
Thanks in large part (almost entirely?) to the friendly little trolls
happily "harvesting" our words, popping them into new pots, I mean
contexts, and setting them out on their own windowledges, with a "Kick
Me" sign in front of every pot. I mean context. I mean post...

It still *is*, because it ascribes too-broad powers.
The fact that those powers have not, at least thus far in Germany, been
used to much harm does not mean that too-broad powers should not be a
concern!!

The only reason I recommend this "crash course" is because especially
the majority of people here in the USA need a starting point. I feel
there is a grave need for us to be aware of the Codex-- and this is
something to simply open the door to what it's about. Yes, it is
presented by people very against the Codex. But I assume people will
know to research both sides before coming to their conclusions. There
needs to be something to begin educating people about this, because
the Codex has the potential to influence ALL forms of health care--
including homeopathy-- and nutrition and our access to these.
Only if you have time. Frankly, I don't, though I have read some.
Again, I strongly feel more people need to be aware that something as
huge as this Codex actually exists.

And from what I've been learning about Dr. Laibow, I have no doubts
she thoroughly knows the Codex. They do not want her or her
organization at this Geneva convention.

I and tens of thousands of Americans-- probably more-- have very
little trust of the FDA. When you look at their track record, surely
they've done good. But the influence of the money-wavers (e.g.
pharmaceuticals/vaccine makers, other large corporations such as
Monsanto) is taking a serious toll. Look at what the FDA done to
homeopathy alone. I do not trust an organization that requires
homeopathic remedies to be labeled with a multi-pillule dosage, when I
have seen a single pillule time and time again-- and even a water
dose-- be all that my child needs. I trust what I've been studying
and what my homeopath tells me, and I do not want to surrender this
trust to any governmental organization, especially one that has the
horrible habit of not checking all the facts.

In the meantime, I am very glad for all I'm learning from you all on
this list.

Hi Shannon,

leaving out the codex issue ...

All you below have replied to my post ist true.

However, these are the arguments the adversaries of homeopathy have
been using. Read the articles of the media campaign in the UK. This is
also what is always argued by the adversaries in Germany - both in the
media and in personal discussions.

While that may not be the "official" homeopathic opinion as taught in
school etc. I do not know of any effort by the homeopathic community
to distance themselves from those opinions!

I also have not noticed any such efforts - except for occasional small
sqeaks - on the lists. Where was e.g.ever any substantial
contradiction to the sites Sheri posted as far as vaccination is
concerned. Many of those claim exactly what I said below.

a few specific comments below:
Well, there are other kinds of companies making those vitamins etc. in
Germany also. How far they are committed I have no way of telling;-)

Let me repeat: What has happened and what is happening now along those
lines has afaik not been based on the codex. There seem to be other
bases that make it possible. I very much wonder whether this is
different in the US.

Afaik this was indeed the argument by which it was taken up and
successfully implemented.

No, no, no!!!

There are many books and articles by homeopaths where the authors say
exactly that!!

And I could quote pages upon pages from the lists where exactly that
has been said - without taking anything out of context!!!

The point is that they did not and do not NEED the codes to do it. I
doubt that this is different in the USA.

Why don't you do someresearch and find out whether there are
pharmaceutical companies in the US who prepare nosodes from living
tissue resp. from pathogens. Find out whether homeopathic pharmacies
in the US sell those.

Can you get Aristolochia clematis as MT in the USA or low potencies of
it. In Germany it was taken off the shelves some decades ago because
it "could cause cancer". Afaik that was before the codex was
implemented.

Right now the European commisions on that kind of issue are working on
taking off the shelves those herbs that "may interfere with the action
of allopathic medicine".

Are you sure that cannot not be taken over by the USA, with or without
codex?

Cetero censeo: I am not arguing for the codex.

I am just afraid that the homeopaths globally are not aware that other
things that may even be more dangerous are snuck in without anyone
noticing.

Regards

Luise
