Since your patient has been prescribed Glucophage, his diabetes has been in development for quite some time, probably years, until detected, usually by a fasting blood glucose test. His age, family history of diabetes (inherited miasm), physical condition (weight, exercise level) and diet all play into diabetes progression. Are his blood glucose readings normalized by Glucophage? What are the side effects he's experiencing from Glucophage? Do you mean he's taking a-lot of Glucophage or additional meds? The most Glucophage you can "safely" take is 2550 mg/day but less is recommended. Only fatal side effect is lactic acidosis, rare, but it's a killer.
Having myself progressed into type 2 diabetes after years of classical constitutional homeopathic treatment, I found this method didn't prevent nor stop diabetes progression. After a few years of figuring out diet changes, various supplements, etc. I decided to start seeing Dr. Ramakrishnan who besides cancer, claims to cure type 2 diabetes and says he has 100's of cures. His methods are not fully classical. He starts with high potency repetition of one's constitutional over 1-2 months, concurrent with a diabetes specific remedy, for me so far, Syz Jamb MT, then next a tissue salt. I took a break as I had negative results from the tissue salt and was questioning this whole approach. Now, having re-engaged, I've taken a new remedy, also prescribed high potency repetition, I had my expected aggravations but then blood glucose sustained for a week at 260, with spikes to 450. I am debating whether to repeat this remedy so soon since it is prescribed biweekly but have been advised to do so because it will stabilize blood glucose. I also started a liver detox diet and detox supplements which has got my blood glucose down to 170. Since Dr. Ramakrishnan says 2 years of treatment are needed to cure and starting sooner is better since permanent organ damage occurs as you age and you become incurable. I hope he is correct and that I can last through his treatment process.
If your patient is using the brand name Glucophage, you may suggest a switch to the generic metformin of which there are various manufacturers to choose from. I did not feel well from Glucophage and it did not control blood glucose as well as one generic I found, by Zydus, having tried Ivax and Teva generics. By doing so, you should see a clearer view of the patient from less side effects. Glucophage works by reducing glucose output from the liver. It is the most widely prescribed diabetes pill drug which should suggest anything liver enhancing would benefit and to look for constitutional liver issues especially if it is the only drug controlling diabetes.
Here are some 1941 USA cases from medical doctor homeopaths who cured diabetes. As you can see from the prescriptions, the wisdom of that era is difficult to find today, at least in the USA. Seems easy reading these cases.
