Liquirice casues increase in cortisol production - which raises blood
pressure.
(So does coffee - increase cortisol)

But look for what is behind the low BP; What drugs are being used if
any?
Is potassium level correct?

Sounds consistent with adrenal-and-thyroid underfunction.

For low blood pressure, if there are no other symptoms, it should not be a problem that
needs treating. These days, normal blood pressure is defined as being the lowest it can be
without causing symptoms. If thee are symptoms, I always check the amount of water the
person is taking daily. 10/10 times the patient is dehydrated, and water alone sorts the
problem.
On the question of blood sugar, this may be coming a bit late, and is only a BTW, but 200
level of glucose is indeed dangerously high and could send the person into a coma, never
mind the eye damage etc. However, the coma is not as dangerous as hypoglycaemic coma,
and can be reversed without too much damage, unless of course the person is alone when it
happens, and they choke on their vomit.

Best wishes, Grace

It's bad yes, though some people go as high as 800!
Anything over 110 causes damage, the higher the more damage.
I do not know why you say this?

In fact a coma due to high blood sugar is far more dangerous and is
usually associated with ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycemia -
and involves dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and serious stress
hormone imbalances - and I see that as a whole lot worse situation -
and harder to prevent - than just low glucose as in hypoglycemia.

Assuming no accidental life threatening overdose of insulin, a slight
insulin overdose or other hypoglycemic episode can result in a
blackout and unconsciousness, but the liver kicks in and turns some
muscle amino acids to glucose to compensate, and the person will
come round again without any help (contrary to some rumors that say
otherwise). So hypoglycemia is in my opinion far LESS dangerous than
hyperglycemia, and far easier to prevent.... unless you are crossing
the road in front of a truck at the time you black out.
Huh?
What vomit?
Vomiting due to illness can *trigger* hyperglycemia via dehydration,
leading to ketosis as in diabetic ketoacidosis - but neither ketosis
nor hyperosmoilar hyperglycemia are associated with vomiting.

I'm not sure why you see things differently?

Dear Irene,
I feel that I did not explain myself very well, as I wrote in a hurry (lesson learned for next
time).
If someone goes into hypogl. coma, they can actually die, as brain cannot live without
glucose, unless of course I am mistaken, please correct me. This was the gist of my
statement, nothing more.
As for choking in one's vomit, again it was simply my way of illustrating that, if someone
goes into a coma, and they are not in the recovery position, there is a risk of choking,
should stomach contents regurgitate; again nothing more than this was implied in relation
to hyperglycaemia.

I shall have to be more careful in future, when posting my views on this e-group. Best
wishes

Grace

Low blood pressure but having no symptom at all is alright. There's
no cause for alarm and no treatment of any sort is required. If
fact, my 30 years experience has shown that those who live to a ripe
old age have low to normal blood pressure.

Dear Grace,
I believe that is not correct.
The liver does not stop functioning to make glucose when someone is
in hypoglycemic coma. In fact research in rats shows that giving
someone glucose to get them out of it, can cause brain damage. It
used to be thought the brain damage was from the coma, but research
shows it is actually from the glucose given during the coma.
The body will rectify the coma by shipping amino acids from muscle
to the liver where they are transformed and glucose is put out into
the blood stream to normalize the glucose in the blood.

I would hope you would post anyway - because even if we post
something that happens to have been superceded by newer information -
it starts discussion from which many people may learn something. Is
that so bad?
