You are so right with your advice. To many people think Homeopathy is totally benign - what can cure you can also make you sick -

Oh yeah? She can't walk, she can't talk, she can't see. She is 86. She has had
alzheimer's since 1993 and i don't think there is a moment where she has been
in any pain for anything i've ever done for her. And while i might get excited
about any possibility of any remedy like a child...please don't assume that
i'm going to drop that zinc right into her mouth. Its an idea. Its a
possibility. Its a likely possibility that some mineral somewhere is going to
help her. I've been studying homeopathy for 30 years and i still know nothing
and i still love homeopathy. I am usually too hesitant if anything. Her
kentian dr. of homeopathy died before she has. he never offered any advice. He
considered it was over for her. The local senior clinic told me to put her in
hospice two years ago. I'm doing okay with her. She laughs and responds to
love.
I went on vacation for two weeks two years ago. Her caretakers did not change
her position enough...she had a blood clot in her leg . She went in a nursing
home for a couple of months and was supposed to be on warfarin the rest of her
life. She got a bedsore in the nursing home. I brought her home and convinced
the doctor at the senior clinic to take her off the warfarin. I wanted to give
her lyc but was afraid to until someone on this list...i think shannon and
others gave some good advice to me...go low.. Her foot started to swell...i
gave her 6c lyc and the swelling went away. I treated the bedsore that she got
in the nursing home..in three months.
I'm very sorry that my excitement came across as naiveness and that i had to
write this letter. I'm afraid your two responses made me feel angry and hurt
my feelings. I have considered this list as support and am always grateful
when anyone responds to my requests for help.

Carol--
It sounds like you're doing *fabulously* in a really difficult
situation!
One of the drawbacks to this wonderful electronic medium is that we
can't see each other as we write, can't use reactions along the way to
guide completion of our message, and it's too easy to make assumptions
about each other--e.g. the writer not realizing that you *do* have
extensive background, and are not at risk of flying off into uncharged
lands...
Keep up the *great* work, and do let us know if what
happens!
Shannon

Carol,
I didn't mean to offend you, on the contrary, I meant to prevent any
harm from your mother.
Managing a chronic case of a weak patient requires a profesional
knowledge and experience. I am sure you don't want to harm your mom
and this is why I have said it.
In fact, even some of the most experienced Homeopaths that I know,
prefer not to treat their own family themselves, even Hahnemann have
mentioned this issue in his writings.
As far as I know, this group is not intended to help people treat
themselves or their family with Homeopathy.
Please try to understand.

Re: tears from eyes while eating
But you did hurt her! Why didn’t you at least write to her off-line, privately? Her address was clearly listed!
My mother suffered from dementia for 5 years before I knew about H. She was in a three-step community, not in my care. I had no way to help her besides keeping the institution and its allopaths (interested only in keeping her alive for their financial benefit, or so it appeared to me) from unnecessarily prolonging her suffering by aggressively treating diseases of old age in someone who had no quality of life. ANYTHING I could have done to ease her suffering would have been good.
I was treated for many years by well-known MD/homeopaths (American) with little or no result, but I am thankful for their effort despite their lack of success. They did not understand miasms, basta!
I wrote to comfort Carol off line and I hope others did, as well, and now I am writing to you because I think you probably don’t know what it is like to try and help a mother who does not even know you—though that may not be Carol’s case. I hope to God not, because it is truly awful, dementia. Maybe Erika should not be treating her daughter, but if Carol is easing her mother in any way, I say RIGHT ON! Teresa (Northern VA)

Re: tears from eyes while eating
So sorry Erica! IMO you should do what you are led to do and if you are the best homeopath available to your daughter, so be it. My point was meant to be that it is a different thing trying to ease the suffering (even as a lay homeopath) of someone of your own family who has and can have no quality of life or treating a seriously ill younger person of your own family—which you apparently did WONDERFULLY. t

Teresa,
Why to write her off line? Its important for everyone to know that
without the proper knowlede in Homeopathy you can do alot of harm,
especialy if the patient is weak. It is not a secret to hide.
Again, this is not a game and managing such a case is not like giving
help in acute cases.
What if she would harm her mother? Do you take responsibility for it??
She asked here about a rubric and I answered because I thoght she is
a Homeopath or a student or just want to learn, not that she is going
to give someone a remedy! This is not how we should choose a remedy,
right? Do you want her to give her mother the wrong remedy?

Re: tears from eyes while eating
If I remember right, Carol said she is has been reading and working
with homeopathy for 30 years. Her posts have made it *very* clear that
she is cautions and "respectful" with remedies. Ben, I don't
understand your concern, in the situation. She is approaching this
with just the same care as any homeopath and any student will, and she
is well aware of the issues. She also has her mother's best interests
deeply at heart.
trust the other person to use their best judgment. If hers is not
trustworthy after 30 years, and after caretaking her mother so long and
so well, and after asking and reading and reading... what would it
take to make you feel okay about this? (Not that it matters; it *is*
Carol's call, 100%.)
caretaker to an aged and unwell mother, there are times when you just
have to make your best call. I have to say, I've given my own mom LOTS
of "wrong remedies"--some prescribed by me (and yes I am a "fully
qualified" homeopath) and some prescribed by others (also "fully
qualified homeopaths"). Some have been helpful (tho not the "miracle"
we've wished for), and none have done her any harm. (FWIW, I will not
play the "how do you *know* they didn't do her any harm?" game, in case
you are tempted...).
wishes" might be more appropriate!
Best wishes,
Shannon
