To add to my previous mail-

there is a rubric called Single parts - effects- ( Phatak)- Alu, Bar-
c, Caus, Con, Dul, Kali C, Ol-an, Plb, Rhod, Secl, Sul-io, Val

Cross ref it with Muscles and also Muscle Cramps - Con

if the location is always a particular place then you want to add
the location as well... sometimes if you know the muscle itself you
might search on that muscle alone as well...but at least the
location will help you-

Allen's encyclopedia has a 2 volume GTherapeutic index to it... I
have seen that as a very good one for refering for very particular
locations... that might help

Look guys - this is A SINGLE MUSCLE affected near the shoulder blade.
Over-use? / ab-use? is the first qn to be asked and if so locally treated by
massage.

I agree with that- the remedies are given for the state / symptom -
probably Shannon will rule out the causes and use these appropriately...
most of the time we get to know the picture and what is happening only
partially. we offer suggestions / rubrics from a homeopathic point of
view- this is almost a community repertorizationm ;-)

my question: is this a one-time, localized aggravation
of a muscle? or is it a chronic spasm.
i don't have ms, but my stresses manifest in the muscular-skeleton
system and i have tried numerous things for abatement.
i suffer(red) from chronic, long-term spasms. different
things have helped, and usually very slowly. chiropractic
never works for me. osteopathy has helped. kineseology, eft, low-
level laser have all been beneficial. but homeopathy has
produced success in yrs old spasms. it was always a constitutional
that worked, and often one not particularly focused on the spasm.
if this is a one-time, single incident condition, acute tx might
work well: massage, topical tx with something like arnica or sport
gel or topricin(homeopathic combo cream). rhus tox or ruta internally
might help, if the sx match.

Hi Shannon,

I just remembered a level I Kinesiology textbook which isolates the
individual muscles and shows their relevance to the organ meridians -
A couple which may be relevant:
-supraspinatus - which runs across the top of the shoulder blade
is a test muscle for the central meridian - brain. It is connected to
tasks which need a lot of concentration - long distance driving,
studying new subject, things which cause brain fatigue.
-teres major - runs from the base of the shoulder blade across to
the humerus, test muscle for the governing meridian - spine.
Associated with acid/alkali balance, warts on the feet, spinal
stiffness.
-teres minor, a bit higher up than teres major - triple warmer
meridian - thyroid. Wrist and elbow problems, endocrine balance,
subclinical low thyroid.

There must be others that run across the shoulder blade, but they
must be in the level II book which I don't have.

Don't know if it helps, but it makes me think that the whole picture
could be very relevant to find a good remedy.

Gail.

I agree. Seems to me it is getting way over complicated. When you become a Naturopath you have many studies on many different healing methods and for a single muscle MASSAGE is the best way to get rid of a knot. It has many health benefits also. Homeopathy or not, I still think if you don’t need to use anything but your hands all the better. Kathy

I know this is off topic, but my husband AND my eldest daughter have been dealing with this. They both have a very hard oval (almost huge clam shell type thing on left shoulder) I thought that Magnesium would help, but it doesn't quite do it... and what seems to help is the mineral Manganese. Boron/Borax seems to check at times as well, but Manganese consistantly is very helpful.

Kathy, Hahnemannian and Soroush--Thanks for all of these!!
which I'll peruse more--and thank you, Hahnemannian!!
for "acute" and traumatic situations (when I can), is that often--and
very definitely in this case--it's *not* a strictly local thing. E.g.
in this case he was looking, acting and feeling pretty beat-up in
general, from a particularly hard week at work. And I've been working
up to giving him another dose of *something* toward a "constitutional"
end. But in particular at that time, I was looking for something to
help the muscle cramp *and* his overall sore and exhausted state.
(Arnica did help, and the muscle did work itself out, tho not sure it
was necessarily the *best* choice... Something else will probably
follow.)
to serve a deeper purpose, and can sometimes come as a real gift.
Which, for a guy like this, who seems basically to be opposed to
anything as frivolous as conversation with a *really* good reason :-)
(and pain or injury are not usually felt to be a good enough reason,
argh), any little clues I can get from his incidental symptoms are very
much appreciated. (Nat-m again? maybe, maybe not...)

So--I am a big fan of using the hands, but am I guess not skilled
enough with them to do as much as I can with a well-chosen remedy!
(OTOH it's much easier to figure out "which hand" to use than "which
remedy"! :-) )
Thanks again!
Shannon

Thanks Irene,
He does indeed need more magnesium! Good reminder.

Thanks Donna,
That's good advice; I do need to know more about just what the cause
was. Problem is that when I *ask* about these things, he rolls his
eyes and changes the subject... Sigh, what's that about the
difficulties in treating family? :-P (Which often means, trying to
treat people who would not normally be presenting for treatment anyway.
Oh well, arnica and nat-m have been our friends so far! :-) )
