USA) thus pulling the alternative medicine activity of each state under
the AVMA banner for all veterinary health care, so adding profits to
vets from it, instead of subtracting them.
However they wanted to ensure that there was no competition so the terms
of the new definition were heavily biased in AVMA favor. For example, a
homeopath would have to have a clinic with veterinary equipment to the
standard of any vet, inspected and found to standard regularly, no work
or advice could be given unless the homeopath saw the animal in said

all went to the project with vets to promote their products in return
for the very sizable funding offered to AVMA to get the laws changed in
each state - including lobbying etc.
Illinois was the first state where the new definition of veterinary
medicine was proposed and it was accepted there, killing alternative
health of all forms - and other states followed. The alternative health
community has since tried to rally in the wake of all this - but it's
not like we have millions (or was it billions) to throw around.
I cannot remember when exactly the campaign began, but I know it started
in the nineties even though law changes took several years to be ready
to propose.
It goes under the heading of "CAM" in order to lull the alternative
health community (and more especially the public) into thinking
alternatives are being welcomed and formalized, while in fact this is a
ruse to - in the words of Bayer/Hills study conclusion "GET RID OF the
competition from alternative health" and allow all the profits to be for
the veterinarians of AVMA (and the eight companies in the conglomerate
who were funding the campaign).
In addition, there are organized activities specifically against
homeopathy, run by a group of vets headed by one called Goldman. There
are 2 or 3 related websites, and unless you look at all of them, you
cannot see who is doing it or what they are doing. But the one website
does explain the approach:
It is to look for veterinary homeopaths anywhere, and :
* If they are licensed vets, file charges at State level that they are
doing unethical practice.
* If they are not licensed vets, file charges at state level that they
are practicing homeopathy without a license.
They have also made sure that all states have a "guilty till proved
innocent" reversal of the usual law in USA. It works like this:
There is a "veterinary malpractice board" (VMB) in each state with
veterinarians (not homeopaths) appointed by the governor to the VMB, who
are charged with implementing any discretions against the practice of
veterinary medicine act. It works like this:
* The spurious charge of malpratice or practicing without a license is
made anonymously against the homeopath by anyone with ill intent.
The VMB then sends out a formal "Cease and Desist" order to the
homeopath who is basically ordered to go out of business and pay fines
($1000 per day in WA plus $1000 each additional occurrence - which is
deemed as another day of "doing it")
If you refuse to go out of business and pay fines - an investigation is
started, and during this investigation time (which was 3 months in my
case) you are deemed guilty till proven innocent. That means fines are
accumulating unless you are out of business for those months.
They can do this because "it is just an investigation; no charges
have been filed at this point". What they forget to tell you is that
anything you say can and will be used against you.....
They hide some words here and there in the accusatory letter, which they
later will argue do meet the warning of not saying anything. And again
they slime out of it as "no charges have been filed yet..."
Eventually the investigation is concluded and either you get a letter
that gives you the go-ahead based on what was found (thankfully in my
case this happened) or they then file formal charges - knowing exactly
at that point what they will be using against you.
You are not alone.
However it is hard to make a living in such an environment at all - and
it would take HUGE additional energy (where from?) to fight back with no
money - as that is the position we are in.
The only way out that I can see - is to fight for freedom of health care
choice AS A SEPARATE ISSUE - at the constitutional and Federal level.
It is too expensive to fight fires at State level with AVMA (and no
doubt the human side as well) having such an enormous head start and
unlimited funding.
But irrelevant compared with the principle of freedom of choice of
health care options.
If I want to choose a person who calls themselves a homeopath and who
uses mainly voodoo and hypnotism and practices in a bath robe wearing a
kilt on their head, then I want the right to choose them. This is about
rights - not about homeopathy!
Bigger than you think!
It distracts us from the REAL issue - that of the right to choose.
America of all places has NO RIGHTS to choose!
We have freedom of religion choice - we NEED freedom of health choice
too. Right now this is the LEAST "free" country on the planet!
The claims of American Freedom do not exist without health freedom!
And health does not exist without freedom of health care choice.
Let them!
They are in charge of THEIR heath choices - NOT MINE! Not for me, not
for MY kids, not for MY pets.
They are welcome to ridicule and discredit my choices (as I do theirs)
till the cows come home - but it's MY right to use them anyway!
And their opinion is literally none of my business. MY business is to
choose what I consider right for me.
THAT is the issue we need to address and achieve.
It's a matter of principle - and nothing to do with what "works" or how.
IF we all unite in this principle, we could be a force to contend with
politically at the constitutional and Federal level - the only place we
have a hope in USA at this point.
