HI I think that it would stand to reason that just being mainly in our
Sympathetic nervous system (ie when stressed and 'adrenal') would interrupt
our digestion, absorption and bowel motility as these are Parasympathetic
activities, and therefore vitamin and nutrient deficiencies can easilybe a
major factor in our ill health due to poor assimilation. Promoting
parasympathetic NS to kick in again usually helps to remedy these but
sometimes the supplements cant be 'taken on board' via the gut route until
PNS is allowed to work, ie when the adrenal hormones allow it. I guess this
is why the mental and emotional symptoms are always so so important in
finding the right remedy for these stressed people. And also why some only
benefit after intramuscular injections of some of the B Vitamins.

Yes the interaction of the systems is amazing. The premise of my dissertation investigation was tracking the depletion of nutrients through each of the body systems - and the signs and symptoms that presented. This meant not only the depletion by the primary reactions to stress, but the secondary reactions that closed down absorption mechanisms, and also the imbalances that require 'substitutions' in body chemistry - which also cause malfunctions and 'stress' when continued long enough. We are well designed to handle stress, but we were not designed to handle it when the stress mechanism is turned on - but not (or seldom) turned off.

Hi Donna,
Can you explain that a bit? I'm all for broadening my conceptual
sphere!

)
E.g. my observation that, e.g. (1) if I supplement B1, B2 and B6, but
insufficiently (too low *proportionately*) supplement B5, then I
develop symptoms of B5 deficiency; and (2) if I take a lot of B1
(without supplementing others) I develop a symptom of B2 deficiency?
Can you explain how that might relate to bowel and liver function?
What do you mean by "boomerang"?
Thanks again!
Shannon

I have a friend who would like to quit smoking, drinking, and marijuana and have been looking for information about what he can do nutritionally to support himself in this effort. Can you point me to any good resources on this or offer any advice? He is already on a good homeopathic remedy which I belive has helped him come to the decision to make this change in his life.
Thanks for any help.
Karen

Just as homeopathy is best practiced in an individualized form by a trained practitioner - so too is nutrition. Words of general advice, books for the mass media, and all sorts of internet sites will have bits and pieces of good information - and some bad - and some is even dangerous. It is more important that the approach be individualized - and supported in the process. He should look for a good naturopath or nutritionist that will support the homeopathic approach (not all will even acknowledge homeopathy).

I'd strongly recommend Dr Nicholas Perricone's books as they advise on
how to eat an anti-inflamamtory diet - namely one that is
anti-inflamamtory at cell wall level.
That is relevant because healthy cell walls allow toxins out and
nutrients in for healing.
