I am not sure about most people no longer having their indigenous bacteria, if that is what you are saying; after all, if hygiene and anti-biotics were totally destructive of bacteria we would be 90% dead, which I guess means we would be 100% dead!!
However, I too have recommended probiotics over the years and know that they can be effective.
On the subject of soil bacteria I came across an interesting fact the other day: apparently there are some people in Turkey ( I think it was) who appear to have no dietary source of folic acid but manage well without it. Eventually the researchers deduced that because they fertilised their veg with their own excrement and didn’t wash the veg thoroughly, they were getting enough re-cycled.

Interesting! Do you recall what prebiotic was used?
Well, the bacteria are not any more "random" than, say, any food
supply. There are different formulas--some just acidophilus and/or
bifida, and others containing up to a couple dozen additional strains!
I don't know specific details, but years ago worked with a chiro who
was very into probiotics, and talked lyrically about how this strain
performed that function, and etc. I use one of the multi-strain
varieties "as-needed" (mostly if stomach upset, or ate something I
shouldn't have, or coming down with something) and seem to find them
very effective--more so than the plain acidophilus that I used to use.

Supposedly some of them are "soil bacteria", that in a more innocent
age one would have been eating daily along with munchies from one's
garden, etc.

I've got some Monilia in 30C . I have however no references in MM (Julian) to the patient's symptoms which are digestive problems (acidity and nausea) and palpitations which the specialist thinks are caused by this. If you have any reference to digestive problems I would love to see them before she comes in again tomorrow afternoon!!! An endoscope showed aggressive candidasis in her gut.

Brilliant rubrics - thanks Rosemary!! Just what I wanted as the stomach ones describe her symptoms. Since she should have finished the allopathic fungicides she was put on for 10 days by the time I see her this afternoon I will stat her off on the Rx. If I remember from my notes 1 pillule a day for 10 days!! I did put her back on the constitutional which had helped her palpitations in the past (Lach) in a low dose and she said that they were a bit better.
