Hi,

This is a really difficult problem: Many Meds plus low vitality. In the
beginning of the case to tell the truth, I usually feel stumped. Thank-you
Rochelle for sharing some of your strategies. Its true each case is
individual. It looks like Rochelle has skills similar to a good
naturalpath, but I don't. So I encourage people on many meds to see a
naturalpath or at least find one in case of aggravations. Otherwise they go
running to the allopath who doesn't help them much with the aggravation.
Often the naturalpath can be very helpful, they are supportive of homeopathy
and they are MD's so they can take the responsiblity for medical
difficulties that overwhelm me. (I''m just a beginning student) They are
expensive and like homeopathy often not covered by med. insurance. Still
even quite poor desparate and determined patients can sometimes see the
advantage. Patients may choose to stay with only the naturalpath, but
that''s fine because I don't have this overwhelming complex problem.

Another scenario is they are running between loads of alternative medical
specialists and I can't read the results of the remedy. This is better than
the many allopathic drug scenario but still confusing. When they are so
anxious, it is hard to discourage this practice and often I think it really
helps. Still this confusing situation makes me wish I had never started
working with them, but if they have good judgement sometimes this works
anyway. So, I have to put a damper on my immediate negative feelings about
these cases and let the patients make their own choices.

Blessings,
Ellen

My attitude towards Vitamins and Minerals is if you have a good sensible diet you shouldn't need supplements but of cause there are always exceptions to the rules :-) . BTW I am not a naturopath but a homeopath with a longish course in herbal medicine, an advanced EFT (Level 3) practitioner and self taught when it comes to Bach Flower Rx :-). I have found in my experience that herbal Rx are palliative but homeopathic Rx curative.

All the best

Hi Rochelle,
Yes, I agree about the Vitamins etc. It is essentially unnecessary. But
people who are in a medical mess are often also very disorganized in they
life habits. Getting well and getting guidance about life skills are
linked. A naturalpath's approach is only pallitive, yes, but that kind of
support can like your other skills keep the patient on the homeopathy
despite aggravations and slow progress.

Ellen

Before you continue to dismiss naturopaths and vitamins - please reconsider! "A naturalpath's approach is only pallitive?" What do you know of naturopathy? How much experience, knowledge or research have you had to make such a pronouncement? Please take a few moments to learn about naturopathy and it's many components and the many ways it is practiced. Would you dismiss all homeopathy because you once heard of a homeopath that only gave mixtures of 30 remedies in high potencies- or some other extreme non-Hahnemann method? [I nearly made that mistake when my first introduction to a real live practicing homeopath was an individual that prescribed remedies based on how the person approached her front door. ]

I am a naturopath and homeopath (and I also have over 35 years in herbology). I consider homeopathy one of the most powerful tools available - however it is only one tool. To say "vitamins are essentially unnecessary" is to make such a blanket statement that you fail to look at what AN INDIVIDUAL might need as part of an overall program of healing.

Hi DCR,

Rochelle said the vitamines etc are only unnecessary if you are eating
well. You disagree??

The naturalpaths that I have dealt with have been highly skilled. So saying
their work is pallative is not a putdown. Are you saying that you can get
at the foundation of the problem without your homeopathy skills? What
naturapathy skills do you use to do this? I really don't know and am
asking. Possibly my notion of pallitive is flawed.

Blessings,
Ellen

Hi Ellen,
Like you I could never discourage someone from exploring "other means"
for healing--yet you do need to be able to see what the remedies are
doing! I have always been "trained", as a patient and also as a
prescriber, to ask that the patient help me by separating out times
when we are "looking for the remedy" from in-between times, when they
can try whatever other therapies they want to. They don't have to
*stop* other therapies while trying a remedy (at least not most), but
they need to agree not to start anything *new* while you're testing the
remedy. And if a particular therapy tends to "stir things up" for
them, then they *should* wait on that, and let one thing at a time be
sorted out, otherwise you are just chasing your tails!
Cheers,
Shannon

Mon Jul 31, 2006 1:16 pm (PST) Do you find the meds are preventing the remedy
from acting (at all, partially, somewhat)? or slowing the perceptible
improvement? or interfering with the individuals ability to perceive?
These are very valuable questions.

I have a largely geriatric practice and it is important to find out what the
symptoms were before being medicated.

I am lucky that they are open to our type of medicine because I don't take
insurance and they are out of pocket.

One of the things I go to is www.healthsquare.com, the Physicians Desk
reference, and http://www.rxlist.com/top200_sales_2004.htm and show them when
appropriate how the meds are affecting them. I also explain how they can hinder my
medicine from working when I don't get the desired results.

If they are still on the meds a clearing remedy might not be so helpful but I
have found it useful in some cases using Nux or Sulph for drug use, Sepia for
hormone use, X-ray after radiation therapy etc.

Also sometimes when the indicated remedy fails to act think about going
miasmatically investigate in this case since you are sure it is Nat Mur if a low
dose of Ign might clear it as there are emotional issues involved. See if there
is an underlying grief issue or a fear of getting well. She might be concerned
of not get enough attention if all better.

Last week I had a hypochondriacal px start retracing pneumonia, rashes, lumps
and bumps changing rapidly and I sac Lac'd her and she came through it
beautifully. She is so dramatic having intense changing pains and issues every time
we do acupuncture that I have come to expect the drama to be intense.
best of luck,
Sunny
