Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
Hi Tanya,
Have you actually *seen* this? (below)
I've followed a high potency with a low only on a few occasions--twice
to "calm" an aggravation, followed 200c (which aggravated asthma) with
as-needed doses of 12c, over a period of about two weeks. Although it
worked alright to calm the aggravation, I saw NO sign that it had in
any way reduced the effect of the high dose, which chugged away merrily
and did marvelous things over the following many months.
The other time has been when an initial high potency dose needed a
"boost" due to stress or illness, at which time I gave one or a few 12c
doses, which seemed to smooth things out nicely, and again I saw no
sign that it had interfered in any way with the high potency dose.
I've been curious where the idea came from that a low potency will
interfere with a prior high potency dose, and I do not think it's
supported from experience! The two "tricks" above that I used are not
ones that made up; the second (as a "boost" in time of severe stress)
was given in several lectures by Roger Morrison, and also mentioned by
my lecturer in school; the first (lower potency to calm an aggravation)
I don't remember where I first heard, maybe also from school, but I
think it's well accepted and well used "in certain circles", and was
certainly hugely helpful in my experience!
But--I also recall hearing that a single "step" up or down in potency
can serve to antidote... Does anyone have specific experiences with
either situation?

Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
Hi Zane,
My experience with using remedies for pain is that it's *easy* to know
when to re-dose! Within about five minutes the pain should either
disappear (quite suddenly in my experience--a very interesting
sensation!) or at least become bearable (I remember experiencing the
first day or two of post-surgery knee pain as severe until arnica, then
afterwards it felt sort of like somebody else's
, noticeable but
not really bothersome). If it doesn't, I would move to a different
potency or different remedy. As the dose begins to wear off there will
be (at least this has been my experience) a slow onset of a sort of
niggling bother in the wounded place, which gives plenty of notice to
take another dose before anything severe has returned. I would be
interested to know if others' experience has been similar?
I have never tried using repeated doses of a low potency in order to
achieve similar pain relief of a high potency--anyone know if that
works?
I would think she should be able to avoid pain meds with remedies...
If arnica is insufficient (whatever potency) there are other
possibilities to consider for the pain if necessary...

Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
Can you give details--what was the initial potency, what was the
following lower potency (and why), and what happened? I want to
compare with what I've seen, and try to see the bigger picture!
Thanks,
Shannon

Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
I wait until immediatly after the surgery, never before,
then give 200 followed in an hour by a dry dose of 1M and
sipping over the next few hours with 1M in water. I will
even go to a dry dose of 10M usually the next morning with
sipping in water as with the 1M, depending on whether or not
it is a first surgery or a first major trauma injury. I also
consider the intensity and scope of the surgery or injury
and dose higher accordingly. Significant surgery or trauma
lap up the energy of a remedy pretty quickly the action of
the remedy can be exhausted so re-dosing might be required.
quite an aggravation at 200 so decided as an experiment to
move up to 1M and within a half hour the pain was
significantly reduced and the next morning I had to restrain
myself from going back on the ski trails.
I have had patients who have had their aggravation at 1M and
resolved quickly at 10M. I call those kind of aggravations
healing reactions because I think that is what is happening
on the physical level. I think the body is marshalling all
its healing forces after a remedy is given, so one could
start at 30 and slowly work up if you wanted to be more
moderate but I feel if the injury or surgery is significant
there will be a worsening of symptoms at some point however
brief and then rapid amelioration. At least that has been my
experience. I am, however more cautious with older patients
who do not possess a strong vital force and start with 30
with continuous sipping and monitor closely as I go up
potencies.

Hi Gayle,
Do you sometimes use (or have you tried) the "as-needed" approach with
re-dosing? I've found it such a nice way to proceed, and we all (me
and my few patients) actually enjoy being able to "see what's
happening", watch the remedy response, see when the need drops away,
etc.

Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
Hi, Shannon.
Very occasionally, when someone has needed a remedy for an acute ailment or
injury and I haven't had the required potency with me, I've had them take
the potency I had available dissolved in water, sipping as needed. It
hasn't worked as well or as quickly as the right potency, but over
repetitions, it's done what needed to be done. So I wouldn't recommend it
as a first approach, but in a pinch it will help to give whatever potency is
available, in water, taken as needed.

Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
Hi Shannon
I think as you suggest the "as needed" approach is the best
course of action and I usually educate my patients with
careful instruction as to what to do if and when, especially
if I am not immediately available to counsel them through
each stage, but I do give them the powders ahead of time.
With big trauma be it surgery or the aftermath of an injury
my experience has been pretty consistent. Everybody is
unique, some have greater healing ability and trauma affects
everyone individually but the really big ones have a
consistent theme and invariably 1M or often 10M is required.
I do enjoy the feedback I receive from patients of the
befuddled responses their doctors note when they observe the
patient sail through their convalescense. They immediately
assume the patient has an impressive constitution and when
the word homeopathy enters the conversation the eyes glass
over and the conversation abruptly ends.

Re: How to use Arnica 1M ?
Thanks Rosemary, that's good to know! Would you say to e.g. "take a
sip every five minutes until it's sufficiently improved", or what do
you tell them?
