question about arnica

Post by Tanya Marquette »

Used arnica gel on a bruise from an injury. It seemed to help but
person reported a burning sensation when she applied it a couple of days later to
black and blue areas that were coming to the surface.

Has anyone seen this ‘burning’ reaction to arnica?

Does anyone have any understanding of this reaction?

thanks

thanks Lynn.

The skin on this woman’s leg is not broken but it may be thin and she is a very sensitive type of person. So maybe
this is what is happening?

Some arnica and calendula creams affect my grand children the same way. They are all blonde
and have very sensitive skin also.

I wonder if they would do better using a "lotion" instead -- calendula tincture into water, or maybe into something like coconut oil? And for the arnica, oral pellets should work as well as topical, I think. Or dissolve a pellet in water, and drip the water onto the sore place?

Are they Boron's junk or real ones?
Boiron has all manner of junk in their creams.
The base is supposed to be very bland, not full of chemicals - check the label...
so it ay not be the remedy but the cream base, that is an issue.

Shannon/Irene

thanx for the feedback. I have considered both or your comments but never had this experience so wanted some validation.

The gel used did have chemicals in it but that was all that was available. This woman would not make up any liquid and she
did take arnica internally which had such an immediate impact. It had a big effect on her skepticism. Then as the internal
bruising came to the surface over the following 2 days, the arnica gel caused the burning. Believe it was because her
generally sensitive skin was stretched from swelling and made it even more sensitive. Will give her a call this a.m. to talk
with her about her healing progress and assure her about the arnica.

I think you could use diluted calendula herbal tincture -- I assume this is for scratched or cut skin? I think that the tincture I have always used from a homeopathic supplier is prepared a little bit differently, but my guess is that either will work.

Here's a link for some ideas on using the flowers to make an "infused olive oil", and you can also buy it there. But I'd also try just diluting calendula tincture in water, and use that to bathe the area. Describe the situation?

Regarding arnica on open wounds, when I worked at Weleda many years back, the director (south Africa) said apparently there is a fly that loves arnica flowers and it's larvae cause irritation to open wounds. He had been to Weleda Europe a few times so he may have got the info there. Supposedly all arnica is contaminated by this larvae so it's impossible to separate.
Now whether this is an urban legend or not, I don't know. I haven't been able to verify it.
