(Still, sometimes we *do* know which we're doing, so I think still a good goal.)

I think it has mor to do with relying on observation and not un-studied or un-researched theory and "speculation"
Don't take someone elses word about, what have you, do the research and know it for yourself.

Base your prescription on the signs and symptoms presenting themselves, not on the "theory of germs"

But to the beginner, I think it sounds like we should take Hahnemann's word on faith. No speculation means no questioning. Of course he means the opposite, but it is not obvious because speculation, thinking and doubting are inherently related.
It is interesting that even in religious philosophical thinking such as Tibetian Buddhism or Jesuit scholastic training, doubting is essential to faith. Everything needs to be questioned. When you rely on experience, then automatically you must start from doubt.
In our own talk and writing, there is a lot of opinion expression that is expressed in a very forceful way. "Hahnemann means xxxx". A statement is made rather than opening with a question. This kind of discourse is what leads to the impression that the Organon is the Bible of homeopathy. It also leads to all kinds of unnecessary screaming and yelling through email.
