Hi Shakir,
The acute I had started with that profuse mucus, perhaps the remedies caused mine to run into that dryness and irritation. Sx certainly alternated.
Bryonia did not help me at all, and yes I did try it.
I came upon China when I rep'd it out finally, was surprised how well it worked, and as I said, my daughter, raised with homeopathy, decided that was the genus epidemicus remedy and dosed her family - it worked!!!
Warmly, Maria

How did the China work?
Regarding quitting smoking.
It is extremely difficult because smoking is not only a physical addiction, as it also rewards us with periods of taking deep breaths, one homeopath likened that to Ignatia's sighing breathing (might have been Robin Murphy) as well as the habit of smoking.
Just getting past the physical addiction is rarely enough. I quite smoking (not that I was ever much of a smoker) in 1973, I was totally surprised about 10 years ago, after a meal when I found myself searching the table for a cigarette. The HABIT part is that strong and lingering.
I learned the hard way in the late 60's that one cigarette was enough to ruin years of tobacco abstinence - I had one and was a smoker again that evening. Since quitting in 1973 I have strictly avoided having the first cigarette.
In 20 years of being a homeopath, have had almost no success helping patients to quit, with or without remedies. I do have a strategy though, that is to try to break the habit first, then go after the nicotine addiction. I quit in my mind first, mentally visualized a 'smoking switch' in my brain and shut the switch down, (we can do anything in our late 20's and 30's that we set our mind to.).
Quitting smoking was a great achievement for me, and frankly I am scared to death to relapse, it is enough to keep me away from the cigarettes, my lungs could never have taken it had I continued, and economically it has been a real blessing, I look at the price of cigarettes today - WOW, what a waste of money. But we former smokers can be a pain in the neck.
Good Luck with quitting.

Maria

It took me about 6 yrs to go an entire year without craving a cigarette. Hard to write this as it is no longer part
of my life and has become hard to relate to my being so addicted to those poison sticks. I agree the behavioral
aspect of smoking was very hard to deal with and needed a lot of consciousness applied to besting it. Stopped
drinking coffee for months because it was not possible to have a cup of coffee with at least 3 cigs. I was a very
heavy smoker. Also, socially, cigarettes played a role that had to be addressed. For example, people would
always wait while you took a long drag while getting your thoughts together in a discussion. Without the cigarette,
people just cut you off and gave you no time for thinking. Very noticeable reaction that others have also noted.

I no longer worry about getting sucked back into that addiction, but do know it could happen as i have that kind
of personality.

Yes, it is difficult to refrain from smoking, that is why I am so cautious and careful to continually remind myself that I am no longer a smoker. Once addicted always addicted.

We really do not know what it is, I think this upper respiratory thing is viral, alternating mucus discharge and dryness, cough, and diarrhea. Low grade fever, discomfort and minor body aches, exhaustion.
Is this a flu??

Doesn’t this sound familiar. Each year something goes around and it is not like previous years.

I have to wonder what is causing the change. Is it because micro-organisms are morphing due to changing
environmental conditions, including air/water/gmo’s/chemical sprays/etc? Or maybe this reflects a core
but subtle change in the human vital force due to all the stressors in our world?

Not so sure Maria. It has been over 4 decades since I stopped smoking—cold turkey to boot.
It did take a number of years to feel confident about not smoking again but, like you, still felt it
was in me. However, at some point that sense of trepidation really left. The experience is still
in memory, but with a lot of detachment. I am no longer connected to it. I am sure constitutional
work over the years had something to do with the change occurring altho I never did look for
a remedy to do that. I do think we can really leave some things behind and even at my age, still
look forward to detaching from other harmful things that were part of my life.

Hi Maria,

I coughed a lot less after taking the China. The improvement lasted about 4 or 5 hours. I have not repeated the remedy because I just don't know what to do. I know it has to run its course. I spent yesterday resting and it helped a lot.
I get one cold per year but as I get older, it takes longer to recover. This is the worse and it scared me enough to reach out to a bunch of strangers (you all) for help. :) It is so not me. The blessing in all of this is I know I can never smoke again. My lungs just can't take anymore and I hope it isn't too late.

Thank you all who took the time to reply, it was an interesting thread with some hidden gems that has me thinking and researching.

I appreciate the well wishes Maria, I will beat this smoking habit. I am visualizing me being a confident, non-smoker!

I repeated the remedy when it stopped working. This is an acute and burns out remedies pretty fast sometimes.

Take four globules of spongia 30 and dissolve it in a glass of water and take one spoon every 4 hours for 3 days
