I don't know for sure but I think it is probably due to vaccination. It is part of the immune system and that is adversely affected

In addition to producing white blood cells, the thymus produces hormones (e.g., thymosin) that promote maturation of T lymphocytes. Thymus gland is larger in children than in adults and may disappear completely in old age.
